We are at HHI this week (LOVE it) and we are considering adding on 100 (or so) points. Do we have any icentive to do it while we are here? We are going to be in WDW on June 5 as well. So we can certainly wait until then if that would be better. We'd like to purchase at either HHI or BLT - what are the current options available to us? I'd like to see prices, etc. and have the decision made before we call our guide. I'd love any recommendations if you have them. :)

Well, HHI expires in 2042 and has higher maintenance fees. However, it offers a nice break from WDW and can be hard to book at the 7 month mark during certain times of year (Spring Break, Summer) since its a small resort. Its a much more relaxed atmosphere than WDW and is one of our favorites. We own all our current points at AKV and have been considering an add-on at HHI for a while now, we are only about 5 hours from there. You can do a lot better price-wise going the resale route, HHI points are going for around $55-$65/point resale vs. Disney's $85-$92/point

BLT expires in 2060 and currently has low maintenance fees, although that can change. Being able to book a Magic Kingdom View villa will most likely require the 11 month owner's booking advantage for the foreseeable future, but since there is no history there yet that is hard to estimate. It is the only DVC resort on the monorail and of course its proximity to MK will make it very popular. There are almost no BLT resales yet so you will need to go through Disney for the time being. The current incentives would negate any savings you will see with the limited resales than might be out there. As nobody has stayed there yet I don't really have any opinion on the resort and its amenities yet. My personal preference would most likely be to own at VWL before BLT, but I won't know that for sure until I have my first stay at BLT.

Hope this helps.

Thank you! That's exactly what I was looking for - some objective advice! We are LOVING HHI but know that when we are in WDW we feel the same there! I am leaning toward HHI right now but BLT is enticing as well :scared1: This isn't going to be easy.

Hi Newbie here looking into DVC.....if you buy points you can stay at any Disney resort...right? I know you can book earlier at your own resort but is it really difficult to book at another resort? I see OKW is selling for quite a bit less than AK, but if I bought at OKW I could still stay at AK or BLT right???:cool1:

Yes you can stay at any Disney resort. You have the advantage of booking at 11 months out at your home resort and have to wait until 7 months out for all others. AKV is pretty big and I don't really see there big a problem booking it at 7 months, BLT MK view maybe difficult at 7 months but that remains to be seen, it will likely depend a lot on when you normally travel.

Hi Tina

Thanks that does help, so the advantage is you may/will have a better room and/or availability? We would be traveling mostly at school vacation times. But I wouldn't want to stay at OKW everytime. The idea of trying other resorts is appealing. If I thought that it would be tough to do so and I mostly had to stay at my own resort I would rather buy into AK.

Yes, booking at the 7 month mark is possible. If you are traveling on school breaks, summer time would most likely yield you a stay at the other resorts. However, depending on when else you travel, you may not find what you want, in the room type and exact dates, at the other resorts.

I just booked nights for August at AKL last week, when I changed my add on contract to the new BLT incentives. I was only looking for a studio so there was availability with only 4 months to go.

But, if you buy at OKW, you have to realize that you could be staying there more often than not. I would only buy there if I was okay with that.

I really want to be at BLT and bought into DVC because it opened. I know it is costing me more, but well worth it since I don't want to chance not having the room there if I want it. With the new incentives, I am only paying $96.00 per point for BLT--only about $6.50 more than I paid per point for the VWL contract contract I bought to become a member (with closing costs, it ended up being around $89.50 per point).

Our plan is to do a few trips as split stays to see if we like the other resorts, but I know by owning at BLT, I will always have at least 3 of my nights there each trip...enough to make me really happy!!!

Good luck!!!
