I'm not to thrilled with the US photography magazines. I'll occassionally pick one up if I see an article that I find interesting, but thats about it.
The best photo mags (IMHO) are from the UK: Practical Photography, Digital Camera World and DSLR User are ones that I will buy at Barnes & Noble. You can get subscriptions, but they are on the expensive side (if you live in the US)... about $6-7/issue. Buying them here at the bookstore will run you $10-12. I find them MUCH MUCH better than the US mags. Better layouts, better articles, better pictures, lots more reader/user articles/features. LOTS more pictures (with EXIF info), many of them done by readers.
