I saw George Winston in concert several years ago at Lincoln Center. I was sitting in a box seat close to the stage and could see him play. AMAZING! His hands were a blur at the piano and to see him play Pachelbel's Canon in D was even more wonderful than just listening to it. Perhaps even more amazing was what he looked like.
Before the concert started this tiny man dressed in jeans, a turtleneck and a vest walked on stage and tinkered with the piano a bit. I thought it a bit odd to have a piano tuner work so close to the concert and in full view of the audience. Much to my surprise a few minutes later the same man, dressed the same way but minus his shoes came on stage and sat at the piano. Most notable was the hole in his right sock that his big toe stuck through. He played the entire show that way and it was breathtaking.
December is far and away my favorite album. To this day my little sister needs it to fall asleep to on Christmas Eve.
