Leaving Western NC in the morning and our area is almost running on empty for gas. Luckily have full tank, but not sure how supplies will be along the way. News is very sketchy about other affected areas. Have heard reports that our usual first fill-up spot in SC is also running out. Gas "is on the way" but no timeline when. Am hoping further east things g are okay. Anyone know? Thanks.

I'm just south of Charlotte along I77 and some stations have run out completely and other stations with some of their pumps empty but others still working right now. It will be hit and miss. I wouldn't let your tank get much below 1/2 before you start looking to fill up just in case. There are stretches of 77/26/95 with not much around.

why is there gas shortage?

Pipeline in AL broke 10 days ago, they found it 6 days ago and didn't disclose until 3 days ago. We filled all cars Saturday/Sunday but when I went out today most in my 7 mile drive were out.

Pipeline repair being worked on but UGH. They overrode the rule on hours trucks can drive since most are local and GA Governor finally invoked gouging law. Could impact entire east coast as it's a MAJOR pipe.

We went through this after Katrina and gas situation is crazy, none for miles then plenty, some are gouging and some are same prices. I was in Orlando then, ATL had none. Coming home I went to Walmart got a couple 5 gallon containers. Kept filling up and was fine until within an hour of Atlanta and then no gas at all.

OP: Look at the app GasBuddy

EDIT Monday 8 pm - DH just drove from downtown ATL to the northern suburbs and said most stations he passed were out. He's supposed to drive to Savannah Friday and becoming concerned.

Have a report of outages in Hilton Head and Beaufort which doesn't sound good. If Gas Buddy is reporting current good prices is that likely to mean the supply is good in that area, like Columbia, SC? Just started looking at that app last night. Hopefully when my techie kid gets home from work I can find out more.

ugh we are driving north on 95 on Wednesday. Planning on filling up before we leave WDW and before we get out of FL (FL is OK apparently it gets its gas from another source.) Then we'll start looking for gas early in SC - if we can fill up in SC we can make it home

Augusta area is low too. Everyone is. Dunno if he's heading that way though.

I can only talk about Augusta and Aiken, but both are low through here.

I'd be safe and pick up some 5 gallon containers of gas to fill up and have with you.

I'm in Georgia and there currently is no gas anywhere near me - I'm close to 85 though so it might be better on 95.

I'm North of Atlanta. On Sunday we had some issues of gas stations running out and long lines. It's gotten better.

Yup, what this poster said. Pick up 5 (or 10) gallon containers and fill up at any gas station you can find in your area and along the way.
