My poor friend and her son...he's 3, fell and hit his front teeth so hard they pushed up into his gums. SHe took him to ER and he has to have surgery tomorrow to have them removed. I assume that means he won't have front teeth unti his adult teeth come in?? I feel so bad for them. Poor kid also had a toddler fracture in the spring.

Our friends younger daughter (aka the daredevil) fell on the side of the jacuzzi tub when she was about2 & pushed her two front teeth back up into the gumline. THeir dentist took a wait and ee attitude and hers came back down. Go figure? On another note, my older DD had to have front teeth extracted (as did I when I was her age) because they refused to loosen and the permanant ones came in.

It happens ALL the time!! I ran a children's theatre, and we had so many kids who had to have their 2 front teeth pulled because of injury. Baby teeth are much more fragile than adult teeth.

Yes, unless the parent opts for a "bridge", the child will be toothless until the adult teeth come in. Every parent who had a child to whom this was done, was told that it does not create any long-term speech impediments, and these kids did seem to speak just fine when their teeth finally came in.

As far as the process....dentists say it is an easy extraction, and none of the little ones I spoke to ever told any horror-stories about it. I think it was usually much more upsetting to the parents.

Chances are, since there is nothing for the permanant teeth to push out, he will get those front teeth very early...like 4-4 1/2. My DD did after knocking out her front teeth.

DS#4 loosened his at typoon lagoon. all 4 lower central incisors needed to be extracted and i had 3 sets of xrays and three consultations including the UCONN dental school. he had a bridge made with cute little teeth that served as a space maintainer and it was all good. i worried too much. ;)

DD knocked one of her front upper teeth out playing at the park we took her to the ER thinking maybe it got pushed up because we could not find it-it was not in her mouth either I guess it is somewhere among the mulch- anyway she won't have a toothe there until her perm comes in. She was not even 2 at the time (22 mos) I was mostly worried about her speech being affected but all seems good almost 2 yrs later still no tooth but she did get $1 from the tooth fairy!

I knocked out a front tooth when I was 18 months old. The adult tooth came in when I was in about 2nd or 3rd grade. I had no issues, my teeth were all straight, no braces needed, etc.

My daughter fell and lost three of her teeth (the two front ones and a side one). She is now six and her adult teeth are starting to make an appearance. Tell you what though, she sure is cute with that gap in her front teeth. I'm going to miss it when her new teeth come in. :goodvibes
