Any experience with C. Difficile?

FYI: I had to laugh a bit, you wouldn't drink the poop, they whip it up, if you will, and put it down a tube the place near/in your intestines . When you are sick enough you wouldn't think twice about it. Meanwhile, antibiotics and good quality probiotics and really meticulous hand hygiene and bleaching high contact surfaces go a long way.

My infectious disease dr gave me 3 options for the poop. 1. Enema. 2. Tube down the throat. 3. (His choice) mixing it with flavored powder and drinking it.

I kept looking at his residents standing beside him waiting for them to laugh. I thought he was trying to be funny but nope. He was serious. I'm so glad I didn't have to worry about making that choice.

I had told my mom about this but I just thought it was by enema. yikes. Glad you didn't need that!!!!

I know that in the pilot program being done at a university hospital here it is ALWAYS via enema, and they are having an excellent success rate with it.

My understanding is that the goal of this particular program is to get enough data to prove that this should be the first-line treatment for C. Diff., because antibiotic resistance is such a serious issue.

Thanks Honnydipp for the name of that probiotic here another question for anyone: when you are taking the antibiotic and doing ypgurt and probiotics, you space the time of which they are takem so the antibiotics cant cancel them out? tia

While on the antibotics the drs told me to take the probitics morning noon and night. I was taking the antibotics twice a day for two weeks. I just spaced them out. But now I take the probiotic first thing in the morning with a glass of water. Then another after lunch that's usually when I eat the stonyfield yogurt (I mix in blueberries to help the taste) then after dinner I take my third. I've gotten used to it, plus it's a great way to keep the pounds off. Cause I gained weight last fall, I was also taking a large amount of prednisone.

C-diff is terrible. I'm sure you already know that alcohol gel isn't effective and hands have to be washed with soap and water. Reading horror stories on the internet is bad for your mental health! Just make sure you keep everything clean and if you even suspect his hands are dirty or anything came into contact that the hands/surfaces get cleaned. It's soooo contagious. I would rather be in a room without access to soap with 10 people who have the flu than be in a room with 1 person with active C-diff.

Also, if you have c diff, be sure to close the toilet lid when you flush. Otherwise, you can spread it to things like toothbrushes and towels.

Uggh...good reason for us ALL to close the lid, CDiff or not, lol!

For the pp who received antibiotics to treat a cold, I hope it was a bacterial infection on top of the cold that you are referring to, since antibiotics are useless for treating cold viruses. The growing problem with CDiff iis made worse by doctors prescribing too many antibiotics and patients using them improperly. Unecessary antibiotics just wipe out the good flora in our intestines, and let the CDiff proliferate and become antibiotic resistant. It's a big problem and just getting worse.

Had it in 2004....have it now due to 3 antibiotics in 3 weeks.....warned the doctors about my past history yet they did not listen! I am so mad right now. Last time I ended up in the hospital cause I was sick for 2 months before they figured out what it was?!?!?! Have not been the same since my 04 infection.
