A new opportunity hit me in the face this morning which might lead to a move to Cincinnati. Anyone got any information about Cincy? Never been there, this opportunity just came out of nowhere. High points, undesirables? What is the cost of living like there? Is it better across the state line in KY? Or are you better off living in OH.

I've already calculated the driving distance to WDW and we would have to drive 5 miles less each way. :teeth:

No, there aren't.

So sorry, I've just always wanted to do that. Mea culpa....

We don't live in Cincy but do live in Indiana only 30 miles away and go into Cincy all the time.

Living in OH or KY would depend a lot on where you'd be working. If working downtown that's one thing, but if working out more, than driving from KY could be a real hassle. Traffic can get real bad during rush hours and with only two bridges to cross can get backed up. I personally would not want to drive through the downtown traffic everyday to get to work. There's also the two bridges for the interstate loop (I-275) but they're quite a ways from the city itself. The loop on the West side, going from KY actually goes into Indiana before it curves back into OH.
If you'll be working anywhere near the West side of Cincy, then Indiana could also be an option on where to live.

Like any large city, Cincy has good spots and bad spots. Several really nice malls, good restaurants and such. If you like theme parks, Kings Island is not that far out.

Also, like Rome, Cincy is built on 7-hills. There's a lot more up and down than you would have thought. All part of the Ohio river valley carved out millions of years ago.

Can't answer the cost of living but do a Google search on cost of living and you'll find some nice sites with lots of information for anywhere in the US.

If you have any specific questions, PM me and I'll try to answer.

Hi, we live north of Cincinnati. Would you like me to mail you the house classifies or another parts of Cincinnati's Sunday paper? I know you can look at things on line, but it seems easier to have it in your hands. Just PM me, I'd be happy to do it.

Deb & Bill,

We are from Cincy. As you can see we dont have many post, but I "lurk" 5-6 days a week, (since I found this site about 9 months ago)usually from the office...just no time at home...lol.

Anyway, we live in the western 'burbs of Cincinnati. Wife is from the Northern Ky 'burbs. We love it here. Lots of bad press over the last few years concerning racial issues. Cost of living, in my opinion is pretty good. You can check with the chamber of commerce (really in any city) for a cost of living index. You can compare where you live now to cincy. Great zoo, great arts community (symphony, museums, concerts, broadway shows) great restaurants, several universities (U of Cincinnati, Xavier, Miami (of Ohio), along with numerous smaller universities and colleges. we also have the rebounding Bengals and reds.

Where to live depends on your preference and where you work. Most "relocation" real estate agents push for east or north sides. Look look all over though, we like the west side. Get a little more for your money on this side of town. Just like DVC........location location location.

If you have any specific questions, let us know.

We don't live in Cincy, but it is usually our "get away" weekend spot. We live in Indiana - about an hour and 20 minute drive. We love spending weekends over there.....we love baseball, so we usually catch the Red's and then a day at the Water Park and Kings Island!! We also like to eat at the original Montgomery Inn.......world famous ribs!! It's to die for!!

I know that probably doesn't help you much with the living conditions, but we like it as a get away!!

Good Luck!!

Since apparently there aren't many from Cincinnati :teeth:, I'll chirp in as being from Dayton.

Used to live in northern Cincy suburb; have since moved to Northern KY and would be happy to chime in on area. I am happier in this area - cost of living seems lower, lower taxes & real estate prices. Any kids? If so, schools may be an issue. Do you intend to commute? Are you interested in night life, events, arts, sports, wide open spaces? Where you are happiest may depend on your lifestyle. Good luck wherever you land and do not hesitate to ask more opinions.

Right now there are so many reasons not to move. We live about 8 minutes from work and school. My son is in middle school and loves it. My job is pretty good. My husband also works and would have to find a job at the new location (we have noted there are no jobs posted on our national website for that location). I love my house and our town. Cost of living isn't bad at all here.

But this opportunity could be really good for my career, so we're still considering it. I'm not really sure where the office is located, other than Cincinnati. I was kind of thinking of KY for no known reason, just thinking that.

Thanks to everyone who is providing information. I'll be talking with the people who made the offer next week, so I'll find out more.

My husband would love to do the Flying Pig, though. Me, too.

We live in Butler County. This the county directly north of Cincinnati along I-75. I commute to KY everyday and have worked in the Dayton area as well. My husband grew up here. We are well acquinted with anything you might want to know about the area and would be happy to assist in your relocation search. Just PM and we'll share. (BTW: We have made the drive to Orlando and it really in not that bad. However we prefer the flight out of Dayton on AirTrans)

There are many positives to this area and the job market is in good shape. I would point out the biggest negative is the weather. We are blessed with relatively easy winters and comfortable summers. Maybe a few extremes now and then but nothing to compare to Northern Ohio. Our problem is the constant grey overcast all winter long. It is really depressing. It seems petty to complain about something so simple but it has had deep impact on my husband's health. I lived in Seattle as a teenager and I would equate the two areas for winter greyness!

The racial issues of the past few years seem to be calming down and don't really effect the suburbs. The art and culture areas are ok, nice restaurants, easy access to other parts of country. (Six airports within 2 hours and the intersection of I-75 and I-70 in Dayton) Schools are a mixed issue and taxes are a bit high.

If we can help, let us know. :wave2:

A great site to start is www.city-data.com This site covers also every in the US.
