Any downside: link tickets to MDE?

Hi all,

Is there any downside to linking never used hard tickets to MDE?

I have six 1 day adult hopper tickets, not assigned to anyone. We are a family of 4. I cannot guess who will end up using these tickets, as it will probably be years from now. They cannot be upgraded in any manner.

The only possible downside I can see is if they take away the ability to re-assign unused tickets. Does that seem at all possible?

The big upside for me is that I might forget about the tickets, or lose them (and the many copies of them in my computer, which is unlikely, but still).

FYI I am not concerned about:
*Having enough ticket days to book FP+ in advance for our next trip (we already have enough);
*Linking to MDE problems (I've done it many times); or
*Making sure the right ticket is used at the gate (have learned from past problems).

Thanks for your thoughts!

The only thing to be aware of is this:
When a hard, plastic ticket is linked to a person in MDE, the plastic ticket remains linked to that specific person. BUT, the ticket entitlement can be reassigned to whoever you choose. That reassigned entitlement must be accessed by using a MB. The plastic ticket no longer provides direct access to the entitlement because the entitlement got reassigned to another person.

Thanks!! (Although I'd think we'd only use MB, I never would have thought of that.)

You can save all those tickets to a "new" person in MDE: Ticket Saver. Move around the entitlements when you need them or add many new people and use the tickets for additional FP booking. ;)

Yeah, I have a couple of, um, nephews on my MDE...

Thanks so much, again, though for pointing that out - our trips are always so much easier due to people like you taking the time to help.

What if you don't have magicbands? Now I'm worried, I reassigned one ticket recently. Does it matter who actually uses the ticket if they're unused so far (I have 1 day tickets for some others in my family who sometimes go)? Also I don't think I could possibly tell which ones are assigned to which person as it is. If they were to go to the ticket tapstyles and scan the reassigned ticket would it be ok or would they be denied entry? It's so confusing and I don't want us to go there with the wrong tickets

If you reassigned the ticket entitlement away from the hard, plastic ticket, yes, you will have a problem.

If you reassign the entitlement back to the person who actually has the plastic ticket, then it (the plastic ticket) will work at the tapstiles.

FWIW when you go to MDE, click on "MagicBands and Cards," and it will list all the assigned tickets - including numbers - and to whom they are assigned. So then just compare the number on your hard copy ticket/card to the number on MDE. At least this is true for my tickets. (I know that doesn't help for most of your question.)

Also how can they tell who's using it at the tapstyles especially without a magicband? Is their fingerprint from previous tickets still on file somehow? And what if the person I reassigned it to uses the ticket? They'll still be denied entry because the actual ticket is no good because of reassignment? Do I assume correctly that without magicband tickets can be only assigned once and then they have to be reassigned back to that person to be able to be used? HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!

Please explain further. Also how can they tell who's using it at the tapstyles especially without a magicband? Is their fingerprint from previous tickets still on file somehow? I don't want my tickets to be worthless just because of being reassgined! Do I now have to get magicbands for everyone? I don't get it! There should be a warning on the site "Do not reassign any tickets without a magicband, or it makes them worthless"

PLEASE HELP! This means that any reassigned ticket is completely worthless unless you have a magicband? It means you can only assign a ticket once? It means that the person you initially bought it for HAS to use the ticket to enter? Even if you reassign it back to them it's still worthless? I don't understand any of it, it's so confusing, I'm seeing the money for the ticket going down the tubes, HELP!

Take a breath, epcotty!

Forget plastic cards and magic bands. Think of a "ticket" as an entitlement. When you enter a ticket number into MDE, you assign that entitlement to someone in your MDE. As long as no one uses that entitlement, it can be reassigned to anyone in your MDE. If you want someone to use it who is not in your MDE friends and family list, just add them.

As for entering a park, if that same person, the one to whom you have given the entitlement by assigning the ticket number to them in MDE, has a magic band linked to them, they can enter the park using that ticket entitlement by accessing it with a magic band. If they do not have a magic band, they can stop at guest services and get a new plastic card. (They can also use an old plastic ticket card that is linked to them in MDE, because they act like Magic Bands, but if that confuses you, don't worry about it!)

thanks for the response. So they HAVE to get a new card if it's reassigned? Even if the ticket has been reassigned back to them? And does this mean that noone can use the reassigned ticket until a replacement has been issued?

Nope, think of the entitlement (ticket number assigned to them in MDE) and the way to access the entitlement (either a plastic card or magic band) as two separate things.

As long as the guest has the entitlement linked to his MDE, he can use ANY card or band that is linked to him in MDE to enter the park, because any of those will access the ticket entitlement. All the bands or cards are are keys to open the door to the MDE, that contains the ticket information.

There's only one actual MDE, mine (and I have family members on it). So I guess that's a problem, huh? And a new ticket has to be issued for the one that was changed, huh? Why don't they tell you these things?
