Any discounts on All Clad cookware?

Our new SIL is a chef and difficult to buy for. There are some All Clad items left on their wedding registry and I'd like to get one of them for him for Christmas, but I haven't found any discounts so far. Any suggestions?

Williams-Sonoma occasionally runs specials on certain open stock pieces or sets. There is also a place that sells All Clad seconds online (or at least used to) - my MIL got DH a couple of pieces that are seconds - one has a scratch on the outside and the other has a small dent on the bottom of the saucepan.

Have you checked amazon.com? I haven't bought All Clad from amazon, but they might also run specials.

Be careful about buying seconds! My only piece of All Clad came from Marshalls and I was thrilled to find it, until I figured out that the imperfection was the bottom wasn't level. It's a 12 inch skillet and it rocks on my glass top stove. If I had a gas stove it wouldn't matter so much, but now one side will burn while the other doesn't get hot enough.

Good advice. Our seconds have more cosmetic imperfections, but I have had a pan (not All Clad) that wasn't level and it was almost impossible to cook with.

The OP might not want to give a second as a gift anyway (DH's came in ordinary brown boxes instead of All Clad boxes), but ours have performed as well as the ones I bought for DH at Williams-Sonoma and paid full price. DMIL asked a lot of questions before ordering them for DH. We love All Clad, and it has definitely been worth the investment.

You should contact All Clad. From what I understand, their seconds/irregulars consist of cosmetic imperfections but not ones that would effect performance. Also, even seconds are covered under the life time warranty. If your piece has a manufacturer error so that it doesn't sit level that should be covered, whether or not you purchased it as a second. I don't know if where you bought it makes a difference though, but its worth a call to them.

I would use outlet pieces at home, but DSIL might not appreciate them. Hopefully I'll find sales before the holiday.

The All Clad I have seen on sale at the WS outlet near me are not seconds.

www.cookwarenmore.com sells first quality and irregular All-Clad. The Williams Sonoma outlet has great prices on first quality. There's an outlet in Dawsonville, GA.

OP, I know you are specifically looking for All Clad, so take this for what you will. This thread caught my eye because I am getting a set of cookware for the holidays, and this is what I picked out. Keep in mind, DH works in a high end restaurant, and this matters to him too.

I researched this for MONTHS before I settled on it. I looked at Sur La Table's all clad version, the real All Clad, and several other options (Kirkland signature, etc) before selecting this set. The reviews on Chowhound.com and all over the interwebz suggested it. Several friends who are foodies recommended it too. I know you are looking for a gift registry and that would be tacky to give this instead, but for others who drool over All Clad, maybe they would find this interesting.

I was also going to recommend a TJ Maxx or Marshalls. Pieces will occassionally turn up there at deep discounts. My Dsis has bought several pieces and been very happy. The pieces she bought have not had defects.

Try Macy's. I just found a ten piece All Clad set for $350. They had some open stock on clearance as well. When I asked why it was on clearance, it had to do with the packaging. I love mine!

We love our All Clad, and I think it's definitely money well spent! Williams Sonoma has occasional sales, and I would think free shipping with a certain amount spent, but you might need to look for a code.

That was going to be my suggestion. I live in Pittsburgh, not too far from the All-Clad plant and twice a year, they have a huge sale on their seconds. I went to the sale in June and picked up $600 worth of All-Clad pans for $200. If you're up for a road trip, they will have another sale the first weekend in December. I could not find anything wrong with the pans I bought. I was told sometimes the problem is that the handle of the lid is not exactly centered (it must only be off minutely, because I could find no problem), or the finish is not quite as polished as they should be, thus they become seconds. I suppose because the cookware is so expensive, they have high standards for the finished product.
