Any dentists out there?

I had 2 cavities filled on Tuesday and today (Friday) my tooth still hurts. Is this "normal". The teeth were next to each other. It still feels like it felt when I went to the Dentist. Can they get the wrong tooth? Or is this going to turn into something worse? I need every bit of courage I can gather to actually make an appointment and now I think I may have to go back. UGGG! :bitelip:

Not a dentist but I have a mouthful of fillings. :guilty: It could be as simple as the filling is too high. If the fillings are on the bottom, your top teeth are hitting the filling. Or if the fillings are on the top, the bottom teeth are hitting. This just takes a few mins. to fix. They will have you bite down on a film like paper to mark the high spots. Then they will grind down those areas.

Maybe you need a root canal - was the cavity a deep one?

Im not a dentist but I got some food stuck inbetween my teeth

Thats what usually happens to me. They fill the cavity but then I need a root canal becauser the cavity was to deep and with all the drilling and filling it aggravates it and I end up having to go in for a root canal and crown.

I once had a filling that continued to hurt after leaving the dentist. After about a week the filling fell out. It felt so much better after that. Not sure what the dentist did or did not do that caused it. I went back and had the filling re done. It never hurt again. Good luck, hope it's nothing major.

Thanks, I think! Root Canal :furious: Do I get "drugs" for that? I think its feeling better. ;)

I'd say if it continues to hurt, give the dentist a call.

I had to have a root canal a few years ago. I was PETRIFIED, but then I remembered that dd had one when she was FIVE! They didn't tell me what they were doing before they did it, they just explained the procedure...."first well, do this, then this, then this, etc." But they never called it a "root canal." She did AWESOME!! Never flinched, watched cartoons the whole time. Not until I went to pay (ouch) did they say "Ok, Katie had a root canal today....." WHAT WHAT WHAT??? I tried to explain "no she didn't, she just had it drilled, and this medication put in and yada yada...." They said "that's called a root canal."

With that in mind I went to have mine done and was pleasantly surprised that it wasn't so bad. The phrase "root canal" brings up all kinds of horrible thoughts. I did not feel ONE thing. Not one. Well, until the medication wore off. Then I had to take some pain meds for a couple days, but it was more uncomfortable than painful. :)

The thing that hurt the absolute most was paying the bill (for that and the crown) :earseek:

Good luck!

They numb the area and its really not bad. I actually dozed off during one of mine (and I have had about 6 of them!) didn't hurt one bit after it was finished. Its just a long boring process, takes 45 minutes and depending on which tooth it could be up to 3 visits and I usually end up paying about $1,000 for the root canal and then the crown you will need when its done. The root canal basically kills the tooth so if you don't get a crown and post done then the tooth will end up breaking and it may not break where there is enough to get a crown and you will have to get a bridge.

Well I have an appointment for Monday. It still hurts so I have told myself that an hour of pain is better than this! Wish me luck! I think I will treat myself to a nice dinner out when it is all fixed, I haven't been able to eat on that side for awhile now! ;)

I feel your pain. I have been to the dentist 4 times in two weeks for the same darn tooth. I did end up having a root canal and had to go back again for that tooth. I am now on antibiotics and feeling much better.

I am glad your feeling better Patty. I am hopeful to have this finished today, but we'll see what happens! Either way I am going to do whatever it takes to be completely well by Aug 5 when we leave for the cruise and Disney!

How nice of you to ask! She filled another tooth, and said that I need to wait a few days to see if the first one will need a root canal. The x-ray today looked pretty good so hopefully I will not need one. She told me to continue taking Ibuprophin (sp) and to call next week if it is not better. I am about at my insurance limit so I sure hope it is ok. They said it would be about $1000 for the root canal if I needed one!

I am happy to hear that you are feeling better. Root canals are expensive and my insurance does not cover it. Hopefully, the worst of your pain is behind you! :grouphug:
