crossing this weekend. was wondering if the strike will make any delays?
crossing the windsor bridge.

thanks!

It is very hit and miss. We crossed on the weekend and they were just questioning everyone for 5-10 minutes causing huge delays. The day before that was no problem at all. My son-in-law works over there and doesn't usually have a problem but you just never know when they are going to slow things right down. Makes me very angry - in what line of business can you purposely be that inefficient and not lose your job!! Anyway I would leave some extra time just in case and if you get through fast it's just a bonus.

Was a PITA two or 3 days ago going TO Canada from the US.... Totally backed up the freeway and took me longer to get home from work

Barb45: " in what line of business can you purposely be that inefficient and not lose your job!"

The Canadian government of course!

My son-in-law has choosen to stay overnight some nights because of these delays (wife on nightshift anyway and his father in a Novi hospital). The other night it took over 2 hours to cross - just crazy!!

Well, maybe its because they are on strike and are working to rule. It has nothing to do with being inefficient

We know they are on strike and working to rule! I'm just saying that in most businesses you would be fired for treating the customers so badly. And why do they take it out on us? They are using us (who are just trying to make a living the same as them and a lot of us support them) to make a point. I could just see someone coming into our office (client service oriented business) and just because I'm not happy with my wages/benefits (which I don't get at all) I treat him like dirt and do my job as slow as I possibly can. I'd be out on my ear before I knew it. I support unions for the most part so don't get me wrong - they are just going after the wrong people. It's also dangerous - cars are lining up down the freeway - I've seen way too many close calls and one day someone is going to get killed. Will that make them happy!

I'll use myself as an example (CRA) , just easier that way. We went on strike because our contract ran out 1 YEAR ago. The Union has been after the TB to talk and settle for a year. They would not talk to us. If you are part of a Union, you have to have a contract, plain and simple. We were asking for a 3% raise which is the going average raise rate in the private and public sector. If anyone is to blame here, its the TB (gov't) for not talking. I think 12 months is long enough to wait without taking action, lol.

They forced us into a strike....I, for one, certainly do not enjoy pounding on cement for hours, freezing my butt off and not getting paid. We certainly do not want to be taking it out on the public but we really didn't have a choice. Tick people off and they go to their MPs and they pressure the TB to settle...exactly what we want. People do not help by crossing over, just prolongs the whole thing (I do realize some people don't have a choice).

If we were rude and inefficient when NOT on strike, we'd be in trouble as well but on strike is a whole different situation. We were firm and not rude where I was but can't speak for other areas.

So we went after the "right" people for 12 months and now we are stuck doing this. We settle (CRA) and went back to work yesterday and for that, I'm very grateful because it was 5 weeks of non-stop stress and loss of wages over a tiny raise (2.5%) which should have been settle a year ago.

Sorry to anyone who is stuck waiting but I hope, maybe, this explained why we are striking. And maybe why a few people may be getting a wee bit testy, lol

we sailed on the bridge, no back ups. But we got pulled into immigration on the US side. Seem like every other car heading into the US was getting pulled in . We were delayed almost 30 minutes. The room on the US side was full of people. even people looking like normal business men.. *shakin head* i know they are doing their job. Gettin the on the freeway, there was a line must have been 5 miles long going into canada.
Coming back we drove threw the peace erie bridge. NO back ups . sailed right threw canada customs. just asked how long we were gone, did we bring anything back.

We crossed Sunday night with absolutely no problems at all. There weren't any backups on either side.

I have to go over tomorrow around 3pm or so to throw some cash into my CIBC account... I hope it won't be backed up then :(
