Any counter service worth seeking out?

Columbia Harbour House at the Magic Kingdom and Sunshine Seasons and Tangerine Cafe at Epcot deserve special consideration and absolutely stand out in the sea of mediocre counter service food. Flame Tree Barbecue at the Animal Kingdom falls in the next category.

Avoid all the counter service restaurants at all costs, particularly ABC Commissary. But it seems you already learned that lesson firsthand.

MK: Columbia Harbor House: tuna salad sandwich
Epcot: Norway Counter service
DHS: Pizza Planet...eat upstairs, bring cash for games
AK: Flame Tree BBQ

TANGIERINE CAFE! Seriously, we had 3 days at Epcot last time (well, 2.5) and we ate twice at Tangierine and once in marrakesh. It was that good :thumbsup2

cosmic rays at the MK is pretty good alot of people like columbia harbor house but we haevtn eaten there yet but will this year.also flame tree bbq in AK is very good the ribs were amazing and so was the corn muffin.

Sunshine Seasons

Pecos Bill's

Flame Tree Barbecue

AK: Yak and Yeti CS
DD: Wolfgang Puck Express / Earl of Sandwhich (depending on hungry you are)
Resorts: Picabu cafeteria at Dolphin (discount for DVC, too)

We do mostly counter service on our trips. Our favorites are:

MK - Cosmic Ray's (we like Sonny Eclipse and we can share the 1/4 chcken)

AK - Flame Tree

DTD - Earl of Sandwich

DHS - Pizza Planet

MK - Columbia Harbor house and Cosmic Rays

Epcot - Yorkshire Fish Shop, Sommerfest in Germany

DHS - Backlot Express, for lack of anything else usually try to get table seating somewhere else.

AK - Flame Tree BBQ

DTD - Earl of Sandwich

After years of disappointment, we finally found a decent place to eat in DHS. It is called the Studio Catering Company. It was pretty good!

At the parks, is there any counter service that is worth going out of our way for? How about any that if we come across to avoid? I know 10 years ago, I went to ABC Commissary at MGM and it was gross, but it's been 10 years.

Thanks!

I avoid all CS at DHS especially the ABC Commissary Yucky is the right word. The only one I eat at is Starring Rolls Cafe.

MK, Epcot and AK all have good CS. I love Columbia Harbour House at MK, like Yak and Yeti at AK, and like most of the CS at Epcot a few I avoid, China, Mexico and Fife and Drum Tavern. I know Mexico has a new CS La Cantina and may give it a try  I may have to let someone in my party try and sample there's first. I'm also wondering if Disney has done anything about the smell at the CS area of Mexico. It smell like used bathroom (sewer), an appetite killer for sure.

Just back from WDW yesterday, CS at Mexico is being refurbed into a new restaurant, totally closed down for right now.

Our best CS was at Norway's Kringala bakery, great sandwiches, with salad or soup included! Awesome desserts, cream puffs, coconut cream tarts, etc. By far the best CS we had all week!

Everyone's making me hungry. :goodvibes

DS#1 - loves a turkey leg anywhere - he is 16.

MK - Main st. Bakery, Cosmic Rays, Pecos Bills

DHS - Starring Rolls for me - because I have a sweet tooth. Rosies before Fantasmic

Epcot - Sunshine Seasons, France Bakery

AK- Flame Tree

No one's talking about "adult" beverages though:woohoo:

While my favorite is Earl of Sandwich, on my last trip, my brother recommended that we (my sister flew in so we could run Expedition Everest Challenge together) try Cooke's at Downtown Disney. It was delicious! We shared the Beef and Lamb Pie

which is similar to a shepherd's/cottage pie with a top crust

.

Besides, where else can you get ice logs in your drink!

The "signature" dessert is a battered, deep-fried candy bar, but it's a Snickers bar (which I don't like), so we didn't try one. Next time, we're trying the battered, deep-fried burger!

Wow, I'm surprised that no one has mentioned the Yakitori house at Epcot in Japan. I'ts quite good!

I reject the premise. No counter service is worth going out of the way for...at. Once you have resolved to seek counter service, the worth going out of the way for part of it has already gone. And I say this based on the relativity of the pleasure factor difference. Disney is just saturated with places that can provide so much more enjoyment during a meal than any counter service could ever hope to approach.
