Any Cheer parents? A few questions

Both of my daughters have cheered for years. It is alot of money but over the years the experiences that we have got to experience has outweighted the cost. We have got to go to Disney several times, Las Vegas, Atlanta, and Daytona Beach. My oldest girl is now in her second year of college cheerleading and I only had to pay $1000.00 out of my pocket for her education this semester. She is scholarship for the rest of it. I say let them try it and make them stick with it for the year. If they don't like it then at least you to look for something new next year. :cheer2:

I just read that you went ahead and signed them up. Enjoy the ride and have fun.

This is DD8's first year of competitive cheer as well and she loves it. We're with a new gym where the emphasis on winning isn't as strong as at the more established ones, though I'm sure that may change with time. But for now they are all about building strong relationships among the girls.

Our expenses so far:
Registration: $25
All Star fee: $95/month, currently 2 nights per week
Tumbling: $35/month
Camp (mandatory): $55
Uniform: $250 (includes uniform, shoes, socks, hair accessory, warm up)
Make up: $15
Competition fees: $350
Official t-shirt: $15
Choreography fees were covered by a fundraiser.
Travel fees will be additional.
And there always seems to be something else that has to be paid for, but it's worth it.

anyone want to buy some cookie dough? scoop and bake, it stays in the fridge for 2 months or in the freezer for 3 months. please place your orders now, and make the check payable to "****** High School Cheerleaders". they're competing in florida in march, and this is their fundraiser.

just another day in the life of a cheer mom. it's HS cheerleading, so we don't pay for the uniform -- just the stuff that the girls wear under the uniform, the warm up stuff, the sneakers, the hair ribbon and curls, the...you ge tthe idea. and we do fundraisers to offset the cost of transportation to and from competitions, the competition fees, the hotel costs, etc.

just for the pelasure of seeing them do this:

Good luck with your competitions! :cheer2:

For those of you who have young DDs in cheerleading (ages 6,7,8, etc), how did you sign them up? Was it thru school or a local gymnastics center? :confused3 Just curious because I've never really seen that around here except I know they give a class at the Y.

Mine started at age 6. She's on a community league, but it's tough to get in. Ours is done on a first come, first serve basis. Sign ups are at 8:00 on a Saturday morning. I got there at midnight the night before and camped out, and we were still #12. The first person had gotten there at 5:00 in the afternoon.

for me, since I am so new I can only tell you my experience. My two daughters have been taking gymnastics classes at our local Y for years. But not seriously. They would sign up for 1-3 8 week session per year, but were always interested in other things so they never made the gymnastics team (nor did they want to) This summer the director of the gymnastics program asked me if they would be interested in cheering as they were planning to start a competitive cheer team. I asked them and they were. There were some tryouts, they did well and here we go . . . .

they only needed to be enthusiastic, willing to work hard, and able to do some gymastics moves (back hand springs, splits, cart wheels and round offs)
