Does anyone know any of the "cheaper" car services/taxi companies that go from LI to JFK? Or about the average cost? We're leaving for Disney July 4 and our flight leaves JFK @ 6 am. :thumbsup2

I think my sister is paying around $200 round trip for a limo. The cheapest and most convenient way we have found is to park at Avistar parking and use their shuttle.

I too am paying about $200 (maybe $230) for a van from LI to JFK on 7/2 returning 7/7. 5 people and luggage

Is the LIRR a possibility for you ? They have the new run direct to JFK from Jamaica (I think). Friends of mine take it from Ronkonkoma all the time and rave about it! Just a thought..........

The only problem with taking the LIRR is you need to transfer all of your luggage once you get to Jamaica station. If I were going on a business trip with just a couple of bags I would do this. The OP did not say how many were on the trip or if there were kids but I definitely would not do this with kids. You would need to get all of the luggage and kids to the station platform, on the train, off the train and repeat this when transferring to the shuttle to the airport.

This is probably the cheapest way to go however...

10-20 for cab to the station...
7-10 off peak fare per person for train to Jamaica
5 per person for shuttle to airport.

For a family of four this would come out to be about $60 - $80

AVISTAR all the way!! LOVE 'EM!! another option is the stay/park options that some of the airport hotels offer (stay over the night before your flight and leave your car in their parking lot the length of your trip) which might be a smart choice w/a 6am flight!

i don't see the LIRR being a realistic option for a 6am flight (that would mean catching the train at 2am or thereabouts)

do you have any friends that live near the airport? my folks used to live in valley stream and we'd park in their driveway and take valley stream taxi for about $35 each way...

last but not least, is find a friend to drive you... college students are usually quite anxious to earn a few bucks cash...

enjoy! :flower:

Take your vehicle and leave it in long term.

---------------------------------------------------------
Parking Rates for the Long-Term Parking Lot are as follows:
First 24 hours
$15 for up to 24 hours
Over First 24 hours
$5 for each 8-hour period or part thereafter
---------------------------------------------------------

7 day vacation would be no more than $15x7 days or $110 max (calculating in one $5 over).

If you have a handicap placard or plates $15 rate is available at lots next to terminals.

If you park in long term you get free train ride to terminal.

avistar w/a coupon downloaded from the 'net or AAA discount is likely to be less expensive than long-term parking and significantly more convenient (they even have the a/c running or the snow cleaned off when you arrive) as the buses/shuttles/trams/trains at jfk are *very* confusing, slow and crowded... and long-term parking can be sold out on popular travel weeks, whereas you can make a reservation in advance w/avistar!

I have used the airtrain, and I think it is great. I use it for business trips and wouldn't hesitate to use it for family vacations. But we usually go out of Islip. One tip, get the 10 trip pass, it is half price.

We live in Valley Stream, so it's a pretty short trip to JFK. We usually leave for the airport about 6am, so I try not to disturb any friend & family members by asking them to drive us. By the time we paid for BIL to park (our car) in the airport lot, and buy him and MIL thank you dinner (once back in NY), it costs almost the same as a taxi/van. Airport Transportation costs us just under 100. round trip for their van. We usually have 4 of us going (including a car seat, but this time it will only be 3 with a booster. I wonder if we can all fit in a taxi this time?

Does Avistar drop you off at the Sky Cap area?
