Any Canuck heading down March break

I'm having a hard time with the decision and go back and forth but I think we are going to go. It's already mostly paid for but more importantly my kids are not kids anymore and I'm really feeling how short their time with us will be now. Our March break trips are precious to me and this may be the last for us with everyone. I feel so guilty! We drive so I will be bringing every conceivable non-perishable food item from Canada I can to mitigate what I need to buy stateside.

Warmly welcomed!!! Really hope you have an amazing time. Where are you thinking of going??

(Just please no jokes about tariffs or the 51st state. I was on a work call with Americans and those started up and I had to explain we don't find them funny.)
We went to Victoria and Vancouver twice over the last 3 years. It’s not that far of a drive from Portland and really enjoyed both trips.

I'm easing the political guidelines on this forum for the time being. I want y’all to have a place to discuss your travel plans openly. ❤️
THANK YOU! Many of us are feeling very unsettled (to say the least) and are dealing with a sense of grief surrounding the loss of what was a very friendly and welcoming country.

Question to our friends up North from an Oregonian. How do you think Americans from the West Coast would be received going on vacation up to Canada? 🇨🇦
I think as long as you're not wearing a certain red hat, you'd be welcomed. If you mirror our politeness you will have zero trouble. After all, you'd be choosing to help our economy. :)

I think Canadians are pissed at "America" but we understand that not all it's residents agree with the decisions being made.

Understood. Much appreciated!

We are cancelling our big cruise and Disneyworld trip we had planned for next December. That being said a trip this March is way to close to cancel if you ask me. Go and maybe even educate some of our US brothers and sisters just how much of an effect these tariffs and threats of making Canada the 51 state are having on us Canadians as a population.

Oh we are going,,but I want to relax and enjoy,,,no political talk with fellow Canucks or our US friends. Drinks and Mickey talk that is all,,oh and a round or 2 of golf hopefully

Everyone must do what is best for their own family and sanity. I can honestly say that I would proceed with travel to the US if I had non-refundable bookings in play. My vacation funds are limited, and I would only take a loss if I felt there was a real danger. Thankfully, it hasn’t come to that. Who knows, we may benefit again in Canada from another US tourist boom this summer. If they come, we will certainly welcome them here.

We sold all our Dvc, which closed this month. We will not be entering the USA for at least the next four years. My eighty year old brother lives in Virginia and I hope he doesn't die in the next four years. He's a big supporter of your current president.

This is a really tough one. We have 2 trips planned in the next year. At first, I thought we could ignore the politics and simply enjoy the Disney bubble.

As the threats of annexation escalate, however, it's getting harder to justify.

My sister moved to North Carolina last year for work. Her reports on the ground are that most Americans are treating annexation like it's a fun idea and don't understand why we wouldn't want to join. The level of ignorance among the populace as to why it's incredibly offensive to suggest annexation of a sovereign nation is getting impossible to ignore. Our protests need to be louder, apparently, and tourism dollars talk.

Not sure what to do. My kids would be crushed to cancel. We are DVC owners. We've already purchased plane and park tickets. Perhaps we continue with our trip plans this year, but cancel any more going forward?

You should still go, take some Canadian flags to leave behind!

I’m still doing my trip in April as it’s fully paid for, was planning again towards the end of June, but told my friend I travel to WDW with that I’m on the fence about it (she’s American) …I love my Disney bubble. (I have an AP) …but I might need to give up that AP for awhile and put my tourism dollars towards other Disney locations. (I would love to go to Japan again) Like many Canadians I have friends and family in the US, so this is hard. I always say I love to travel there, have zero desire to live there. (I constantly get people asking why I don’t move to Florida since I love WDW so much)

I’d love to get off this ride and for things to go back to normal 🤪

I’ve cancelled my upcoming vacations (3) to the US. We’re now headed to Newfoundland and Labrador this September (we’ve visited all the other provinces,) and to Aruba next January.

We’re also planning on selling our DVC right away.

Not interested in spending time or money
In an environment that is hostile toward Canadians. It’s sad to say, but I feel this relationship is permanently damaged. I sincerely hope I am wrong though.

If you speak to most Americans about this issue, they see nothing wrong with the situation or don't know what's happening. Another reason not to go. They don't care and we shouldn't support their economy.

I live in a border city and refuse to step foot in the USA.
Your first sentence is what bothers me the most about the whole thing.

Typical American thinking. Beyond their comprehension why anyone, given the chance, would refuse to become American. The greatest country in the world, in their eyes only! Ask them if they would be happy to have their country become a province of Canada and see their shock and anger!

I posted earlier our 2 week WDW vacation for a milestone birthday will not be booked for next January. Mexico will get our money. I live an hour drive away from the States and we have absolutely no intention of spending one dollar there, at least until there is a change and our country, like any sovereign country, starts getting the respect it deserves.

Absolutely agree! We too live an hour drive away and will not visit again. One dollar spent supporting their economy is one too many! They need to know that Americans are not the only ones who are proud of their country.

Yes. Let's say China suddenly started saying they would be making the U.S. part of their country...that the U.S. needed China's protection and it just made sense...that border lines are just invisible ruler markings on a map and don't matter.

Would Americans laugh and think that was a "fun idea?" They'd have nukes pointed East and armies massed at their borders faster than the snap of a finger. Why they can't think of their own threats in the same way is beyond me.

I came on here specifically looking for this question and discussion. I have a dear friend who has DVC and treats two of us to a trip when she's able. We've gone twice and have a third one scheduled for November. They're both American but feel as sick about the political climate and the treatment of Canada as I do. It's interesting to me to read that others have experienced Americans as being so oblivious to our feelings - my social media is full of Americans who support us and are horrified. Just the algorithm I guess.

I have loved our trips so much and to be honest, and no self-pity here I promise, for reasons currently beyond my control I don't have much fun in my life and not much to look forward to, so the Disney trips with these friends have been amazing. Disney is so unique, so special. Part of how I can afford a trip like this is our rooms are covered, so going somewhere else with them isn't likely. I've been thinking about different things. What if I flew out of Canada (I'm in a border city and usually fly from Detroit) using a Canadian airline (ugh, but you know). Disney doesn't support the values of the current US administration. I wouldn't be spending any money off of Disney property. And... I just don't think I can do it. I'd feel like I was betraying my country.

Another consideration - I had brunch with some friends over the weekend and one is married to a Canadian border guard. She said they have begun searching the vehicles of everyone who comes back from the US. They are absolutely entitled to do that, and before this random checks would happen occasionally, but to be honest I haven't been searched in years. They're also charging duty for every purchase. For those who don't know, legally you aren't entitled to bring back merchandise for free from the US unless you've been away for I think 48 hours, but in practice it's extremely common for them to allow you to bring back up to a couple hundred dollars' worth, or to not even ask except about alcohol and tobacco. So now I'm wondering about the border crossing experience in both directions.

So yeah. I think not. I'm heartbroken.
