Any Canuck heading down March break

We were supposed to travel Feb 13th for a Disneyland trip that has been more than six months in the making.
I've been working on cancellations all day. Our flights are nonrefundable but rest is. I just don't see how we can stomach going right now...

Canadians who are traveling soon - is there a way you mitigate exchange rate uncertainty? Do you have USD accounts already filled up?

What a time!

No. There is no way to mitigate the currency rate. You can try to exchange without any premium by doing a "Norbert's Gambit" https://wealthsavvy.ca/norberts-gambit-questrade/

However, this only reduces a couple of percentage on the credit card premium. It does not change the fact one US dollar is almost 1.5 Canadian... The best way to mitigate it is to boycott USA travels.

Great to see so many Canadians sticking together. Times are about to get rough but we will be there for each other.

A dollar spent in the USA right now is a dollar too much. I live in a border city and the automotive capital of Canada so it's going to get bad but we will do our best to pull through.

Not March break but first weekend of April and two weeks in August.. we will not change how we vacation due to politics.. I will support Canadian companies the best I can but we will still be going to the U.S multiple times a year as I have no desire to travel within Canada

My most recent trip was Nov 9, 2024. It was wonderful, but bittersweet, knowing that my own travel days are running out, but more so that I really do not wish to support that economy anymore. WDW has been our destination for many terrific trips since 1994, but it is time to look to other countries.

We will be there from March 9-17. We had planned a DL and then Aul trip later this year. One of our home resorts is Aulani but we have canceled that and are considering whether we travel in Canada or Eurasia instead. We usually spend 30k plus a year at WDW and other than March we won't spend a penny while the "$@%@" guides our neighbour's to the south

yup I know it sucks,,,,but this short of timeline,,no way out and not giving up flights for it. I will not let him win and ruin my happy time.
That's basically the non refundable part for us. We could easily rent out our dvc points but we are flying from Seattle on Alaska so even if we cancelled we'd have airline credit....that would HAVE to be used in the US. Ironically this is the first time we not flown from Vancouver because the prices were just too high. Literally half the price to fly from Seattle this time. C'est la vie. We have no other vacation plans for 2025 because my husbands' work contract is up for renewal and we don't know if they are going on strike or not later this year so if we do end up going away in the summer it will be within BC.

With all the folks saying they are canceling I thought I’d be able to scoop up some of the fallout reservations … unfortunately even less available than when I checked last week … go figure

Too funny. We also are flying out of the states for the first time in awhile. March break trips are so much cheaper to fly out of the states. $203 pp cdn vs $600 cdn. No brainer

I'm easing the political guidelines on this forum for the time being. I want y’all to have a place to discuss your travel plans openly. ❤️
Thanks for allowing us to share what we are doing. I miss WDW already and I go there in a month. To go from 90 days a year on WDW property to likely zero for a year or two will be tough. We will still be sending our special needs daughter every couple months because disney is everything for her, hence we had never been to WDW until she was taken by a charity.

We are staying at the Boardwalk,,,always up for a drink and walk around the boardwalk. With our girls now 18 and 14 they are going to spend some solo time, so we will too. ya
Feel free to drop me a line and if it works we'll grab a drink somewhere - we'll be at SSR this trip.

Sons exactly halfway between your girls so he'll appreciate being left alone for an evening lol.

We have a trip coming up that we've decided not to cancel. We have a 4 year old who is absolutely beside herself with excitement. She counts down every single day. At this age she could never understand our reasoning behind such a cancellation. It is also a splurge celebration for my mother who received an organ transplant.

We typically visit twice a year. This is our last visit for the foreseeable future.

We have a cruise booked for summer that is non-refundable, the original plan was to spend some time in Orlando, but I'm really reluctant given the political climate/treatment of Canada and, let's face it, crappy exchange rate doesn't help. Might see about changing our flights so it's just in and out for the cruise. It sucks to even have to think this way!

I don't think I would cancel either. Yesterday I did a costco shop and my teens all love taquitos and they were on sale. We usually go through 4 cases a month. But label saying made in USA, so I bought one and told the kids they should be thankful I caved to buy them one. I also cancelled disney plus and Netflix yesterday. We will survive with crave, free streaming and prime(tough to avoid prime).

Question to our friends up North from an Oregonian. How do you think Americans from the West Coast would be received going on vacation up to Canada? 🇨🇦
Warmly welcomed!!! Really hope you have an amazing time. Where are you thinking of going??

(Just please no jokes about tariffs or the 51st state. I was on a work call with Americans and those started up and I had to explain we don't find them funny.)
