Any Canadians Cruise without a Passport

We are booked on the Sept4 sailing and have the kids grandparents coming with us. We have outr passports but they don't. I called Disney 3 times and each time they told me all they needed was their birth certificate and a goverment photo ID. I just read on the board indicating that a passport is required! We obviously don't have a lot of time to react so I'm curious if any other Candians have cruised in the last few months without a passport and did you run into any issues.

We cruised in 2002 and we all got passports because we thought that would be the best way to go.

at this point and time but may in the near future. It was posted on the Cdn Boards that a passport can be done in a matter of a week's time.

I personally feel it safer to travel with a passport. Peace of Mind!

Sometime after 9/11 The Canadian government mandated that its citizens must have their passports for foreign travel. You may get out of the country, but will not get back in. Please check with your local government agencies for details.

Hi I just sent my application for my Canadian passport - the application said to expect it back in twenty business days - I was a little nervous because they want original birth certificates and marriage licenses (no copies) with a promise to mail them back with the passport. I am mailing it from the US and I know here I can get a US passport for DH and DS's in a couple of weeks if you go to certain post offices. Can you do that in Canada as well?It seems so long ago that I have lived in Canada (boohoo) that I forget these things. Good luck

As a Canadian, I understand that we now are required to have a passport for the Bahamas. We do not NEED a passport to enter the US or re-enter Canada, (but it is always preferable). I have never had one and we travel 3-4 times a year over the border.
If you go in person to a passport office with all your documents they say it only takes 10 days. You can check the Bahama requirement on the Canadian government site for passports, but I am not sure exactly what it is called. I am at work (on a Break! of course ) but if you need more info I can probably get it later. and of couse there is also the Canadian visitor board.

I know when we talked to a TA about passports to travel the TA advised us that we definetly need passports. When we booked with DCL they also said we need passports. We needed new passports so we sent ours in and also did the paperwork for the kids. I did this through the mail since we are not traveling till January 2005. I decided since I didn't want to wait around to get a check from the bank or money order to put it on our visa I just noticed that the transaction has gone through and it has only been about two weeks since we sent them in. I think this is pretty good timing. Just thought you'd like the info on how long it has taken for them to be processed. We have not received them and if you would like to know how long that process is please PM me and I'd be happy to PM you back when we get them back. Thanks and good luck Pauline

Something I just thought of is that on this government site, you can print out the passport forms that you need to fill out and it gives you all the requirements. You can also get them at the post office. Are the grandparents living in Canada or are they in the States at the moment?

Sorry Carol Ann that isn't true.
There are a number of countries including the U.S. that Canadians still don't need a passport.
Number of folks in my office who are too lazy to get passports will only choose places that a passport isn't required in the Caribbean. Can't understand that one but to each their own

We do travel with passports.

When we were getting our passports back on our Wonder Cruise in Jan of 2004, I saw them returning a Canadian Birth Certificate to another passenger. So I guess at that time at least you did not require a passport.

Maybe it makes a difference where the ship is cruising to, which countries it is visiting.
