Hi... I couldn't find a thread - but was wondering if there's any campers around? :)

We're tent campers :) and have been to Pinery, and Long Point in ON this year so far - we like to camp in the States too - but.... y'know ;-)
We're off to Haldimand Con this weekend, haven't been there before, so looking forward to it.

Also my daughter was asking how we can make our sites more "Disney", if anyone has any crafty ideas.... :D

We just got back a few days ago from a week at Killbear. Had fantastic weather as we managed to squeeze in between the Barrie tornado at the start and rain at the end. We have camped at many of the Ontario parks over the years

I'm pretty sure there are a number of people on the Canadian board that camp if you ever have a specific question.

As for crafting, my ability is 0 so I will leave that to someone else. :)

Hi!

Oh, I didn't have a question - I just see other people sharing other stuff - and noone seemed to mention camping. I wondered if it was "beneath" DisneyPark peeps... ;-) hahaha.
I've never made it to Killbear, almost though... but not YET? also haven't made it to Algonquin - but plenty places near by. Balsalm Lake, Covered Bridge @Killaloe, Bon Echo, Bass Lake.

I'm going to try making Mickey pancakes for breakfast this weekend ;) If adding Ovaltine to waffle mix makes them taste like the parks - I'm thinking I can make Mickey waffle tasting Mickey shaped pancakes for the kids :D hahaha.

Craft for camping
Disney Fairy Lights.

Decorate glass mason jars (paint, stickers, black electrical tape duct tape etc) ...
Add small white lights (battery) to the inside of the jar.

OMG I grew up in Killbear! I'm deadly serious here - we went with another family who had kids the same age as us and spent the entire summer. This was back in the days that you could have a campsite for 2 weeks at a time and we would trek to the main gate every other Sunday to buy another permit for the next time period. We went up the first weekend of summer, once we were in school mom would start packing stuff the last 2 weeks of June and we would head off as soon as we got home on the last day. The 2 dads took every Friday and Monday off to make long weekends and left the six of us up there with one Bug to get around, YUP, we had to head into Parry Sound once a week for allergy shots and laundry and the 2 youngest (myself part of that!) were tossed into the back, the other 3 squished into the back seat, needing to make at least 2 stops each direction for the one who got carsick. I just found pictures of myself in a baby harness (you know, dog leash but for babies :P ) attached to the picnic table while the site was being set up and one on the beach, I might have been 2 on the beach but not even walking in the other. We had to go get ice blocks from just outside the gate several times a week, even after we got a propane powered fridge, made weekly trips around the campground collecting empty beer bottles to cash in for spending money, went to the dump to watch the bears, and hours in the canoe with packed lunches. We would pack up and come home after dinner on Labour day once the traffic had settled down.

We also went to Fort Wilderness every year until I left home, rented a motorhome and drove down on March Break most years and a couple of times flew down during Christmas and rented one once we left my grandparent's house. We went there for the first time in 1972 - went to WDW for a couple of days as day trips in '71 (yes I'm THAT old!)

NOW, once we had our own kids I think we went twice before i said NEVER AGAIN!! I don't enjoy doing all the same tasks without the conveniences, needing to boil water to do dishes, walking in the middle of the night to either the outhouse or much further to the comfort station (that's a joke of a term), sleep in what's always damp sleeping bags, and deal with sand in places it doesn't belong :P We didn't tent camp, but even the pop-up trailer was well below my snobby vacation standards 🤪

I was a child of the 70's
Spent summers family holidays at Skyline Park (Tent camping )(Chemong Lake Peterborough) family of 7,,,yep cozy comfort....NOT

My parents finally bought property and built a dream cottage ,,,much better. Viceroy Homes.
Here's a picture of the model they bought ,,sunroom on right side of the cottage was the best room,,,,love it,,, no bugs.
We built it on Sandy Cove.

Also spent a lot of time at a City run Day Camp Totoredaca ..... lots bugs, bugs and bugs.
My first Anaphylactic reaction.. stepped in a yellow Jacket nest and got a thousand stings ,,,,ok we weren't suppose to go down to the mud creek and swing on the ropes but counsellors were having lunch so what are a bunch of kids suppose to do to occupy themselves.
Brief History
https://www.modernmississauga.com/m...augas-totoredaca-park-also-known-as-toto-park
I have now graduated to being a Resort snob,,, after spending many nights walking the sister to the outhouse way...... way...... way... up the hill cause she was a princess and wouldn't use the port a potty.

I have owned two cottages in the past 20 years but decided that I was doing way to much work every weekend ,,,, I ended up selling them.
Peterborough and Campbellford Ontario.
I am content to rent when I feel the need to get back to nature.

We tent camped in the Canadian Rockies for 10 nights spread between Banff and Jasper in 2018 . We drove out and stayed in hotels along the way but camped the entire time we were there. I wouldn’t have done it any other way . I love Fairmont Hotels , cruises , Disney resorts but there is just nothing that compared to waking up with my husband and son and hearing the roaring Athabasca river directly beside us. We opened our tent flap and saw the most majestic mountain views . We hiked and had campfires and the entire trip was absolutely magical. A nice hotel has its perks but this was unique and more magical than any Disney trip .
In fact we loved it so much we do plan to get a small couples trailer and take it to as many National Parks as we can as we retire. Set up and take down of all the camping equipment isn’t ideal to move every night so a small well equipped trailer is our preference . But no hotel can have you feeling part of nature like being in that tent in the middle of it can .

So I should mention the benefits of Camping I got:

Deep love and respect of nature.

Know how to ride a dirt bike & ATV safely.(My first vehicle was a Honda motorcycle much to my parents dismay).. lol.

Can build an awesome camp fire.

Know how to pitch a tent in a good location.

Deep respect for water safety--instilled by my dad,, can handle a row boat ,paddle boat and speed boat safely.

Learned how to water ski & Jet ski ,tube towing,, and white water rafting safely.

Learned how to snorkel.

Can chop wood if I have to.

Can cook some awesome food on an open fire and a camp stove.
(without burning down a dining tent) Yeah hubby did that one time.

Made lots of great memories.

Happy Camping adventures

My last camping trip was 20 years ago a kayaking trip in Alaska and it rained the whole time.

I love National, Provincial and State parks though and have found day passes to the parks to be perfect. Spend the day and the go stay in a dry bed in a hotel.

In Ontario Day passes are free Monday to Thursday so I have been taking advantage of that.

Easy coloring pages
Disney Sun Catchers ..just remember to remove from trees when leaving the camp grounds.

Buy a Disney coloring book at Dollarama.

Love it :) I see a trip to dollarama in my future i.e. this evening.
... and yes, we always try to leave the campsite a bit tidier than when we arrive - and with the influx of "new campers" thanks tot he pandemic, it's sadly not difficult to do :(

Love the pendants flags :) I wonder - if I'm getting the Disney colouring book for the suncatchers ANYWAY.... I could do something similar with other pages. .... brainwave!!! .... like colour a section - cut it into a pendant shape but keep it recognisable - cover in clear sticky plastic (I forget what it's called)!!!

... and you know - you just reminded me that I owe my son a kite :P he's been asking for one since I got him a small one that wouldn't fly :P

Sounds like the setup for a movie!!! really does!

... and yes! "comfort station" .... :P although they are a slight step above the 'drop & plops'. Gotta love a vault toilet in August!!

I think my days of truly "camping" are pretty far behind me, unless you consider borrowing my parents motorhome and having comfortable beds camping:) When I lived in Ottawa (I'm back in Victoria, BC), I loved going to KOA Ivy Lea (1000 Islands). Such a pretty area and so much to do at their campsites. Different themes each week, lots of fun stuff for kids, great dog park (if that is a concern), and of course swimming pool and hot tub. I used to just go there and rent one of their cabins, but there are tent sites and many RV sites.

Retired paddle-in camper here (wife and kids have zero interest). Primarily 4-6 night trips into Algonquin with one year going down the Petawawa. Thank goodness we rented ABS canoes for that trip as it literally pinned against a rock and was bending when we jumped out to release it. Loved the quietness, loon calls in the crisp morning air and paddling past a grazing moose. Not much of a choice on that one as we had to get to the portage spot in a huge storm with lightning hanging across the horizon. Also enjoyed weekends at Elora Gorge for tubing down the river.

I grew up camping and this year finally went with the kids. We did Sandbanks end of June, Murphys Point two weeks ago and this weekend Bon Echo! I went to Bon Echo every summer as a kid. We are learning as we go how to pack and set up equipment. The last trip the campsite was filled with fireflies and the sound of loons : )

My parents live on Emerald Isle (not too far from Skyline) and we have a cottage by Kinmount :)
