Any Buzz on Osborne Lights for 2016?

I'm hopeful that they will pop up somewhere else but I have my doubts.

Not expecting to see the Osborne lights at all this year.

Think there are gone, never to come back, like a lot of other thing. Most likely replace with something new,

Very sad. Glad I got to see them one last time this year. To me, it was the best part of Christmas time at Disney. Don't know if I will ever go back at that time of year again. We drive from OH, so that's a risky time of year to plan a road trip anyways, and now with the lights gone, not worth it.

Perhaps Disney will reintroduce the Osborne Lights somewhere as a hard ticket event charging the low price of $149 and offer some cookies, a few cheap desserts and some sparkling apple juice or hot cocoa... I'm sure there will thousands frantically trying to get online at 6:00 AM with Visa card in hand to book it. :rotfl2:

I refuse to take part unless I get a cupcake. ;)

You might be onto something. :)

Last I had heard the rumor was they were moving to Epcot around the beginning of WS around that area. But it wasn't this year. 2017 probably the earliest.

As of now the lights are still in storage. I was told by several CMs that Disney does own the actual lights but not the Osborne name, the show, or the music/soundtrack that was used. The black cat, the opening, etc... All went back to the Osborne family. So, if they do bring them back it would be a new Christmas lighting display in a brand new arrangement and show.

The Osborne family was given back the figures from the original display as they didn't own those like the globes or spinning carousel type things. Disney owns the lights because they were all replaced with LEDs. I don't see the lights coming back anytime soon. Streets of America was really the perfect lace for them.

From rumors I had heard Disney cancelled any existing contract with the Osborne lights and will not renew it. Sadly I fear it has the fate of Spectromagic. It has been dismantled and is never coming back.

Many of the strings of lights attached to the walls and roofs of buildings are discarded and replaced each year. A few have remained in place through the summer until the next season.

If a string went completely dead leaving a gap of darkness on a wall or overhead canopy, which sometimes happens, it is not worth Disney's while to debug it to find the burned out bulbs.

The contract was not renewed but it wasn't just cancelled either. Disney knew that area would be used for other things so that is why they ended the lights.
