Any budget accommodations in Cleveland?

I'm going to have surgery next week in Cleveland, Ohio. Any budget hotel recommendations for my family?

Have you contacted your hospital about lodging? Sometimes nearby hotels will offer special rates to hospital patients.

I had surgery there last October. We stayed at a Staybridge Suites. It was reasonable, but about a 20 minute drive to the hospital. We needed a 2 bedroom since my 4 adult children came for support.
You will love the Cleveland Clinic. I had heart surgery and everyone in the cardiac area was super nice. They seem to have it very together there. I've worked I've worked in the medical field for over 20 years and I've never seen a place run so smoothly. From lab to radiology to surgery to housekeeping, everyone was wonderful.

Actually, I have a swallowing disorder and can't eat. I am in the hospital near my home and am possibly getting a Picc line today. I am having endoscopic surgery on my esophagus in Cleveland. Thank you for reassuring me about their quality of care.


I can't believe how high hotels are in Cleveland- even with a hospital rate and Priceline. We've paid less for oceanfront at Myrtle Beach or rack rate for a 2 bedroom condo with a water park in Pigeon Forge! With the SPG points required for the Starwood hotels, my parents could spend 5 nights at the Swan/Dolphin. Plus, it's so hard to tell what's a nice place and what's not.

We stay at the Hyatt Place in Cleveland/ Independence for dance competitons. Not sure how close it is to hospital

OP - there used to be a Guesthouse on main campus that was the more affordable hotel option compared to Intercontinental, but it has recently been torn down and is the site of a future medical school. Intercontinental is right on campus and has 2 locations - suites and a regular hotel. There's also a DoubleTree (Tudor Arms) very close by - it's technically not on campus but it is very close - just across the street. In doing an internet search it looks like Holiday Inn, Wyndham Playhouse Square, Hyatt and Crowne Plaza are more affordable options.

I think I know where the Staybridge Suites is that someone else mentioned. I would recommend looking for hotels in the surrounding communities (Westlake, Rocky River, Lakewood) to cut the cost a little bit. Westlake in particular may be worth looking at - it's about a 25-minute drive but it's easy, just hop on 90E, a bit of downtown driving and you're at Cleveland Clinic. There are a few options hotel there (Hampton Inn, Holiday Inn, etc.) and a decent number of restaurants as well.

ETA: Wanted to add a couple of things - I recently stayed at the Wyndham downtown and it was nice. Also (and you may already know this), when you park at main campus you WILL be charged daily for parking. It's $10 per day maximum, but there are longer passes you can buy for a discount (i.e. 7-day unlimited pass for $30). Please feel free to PM me if you have any questions.

OP, have you tried Hotwire? For next week and searching for a family of 2 adults, 2 children I'm pulling up a 4 star hotel in downtown for $66 and a 2.5 star with free breakfast, also for $66. Looks like you'd have to pay for parking, however.

I was going to suggest this as well. Priceline only guarantees bedding for 2 guests per room. HW will allow a search for more.

We stayed in Independence at the Hampton Inn during our time in Cleveland last year. If I recall properly, it's 15-20 mins to the Clinic. There are a ton of chain hotels at Rockside/I-77. That is a huge business area though and could be expensive during the week.

Cleveland Clinic is a premier hospital, but it's location.....well.....it's kinda in the hood. It's not downtown, but a tad past it to the east. The campus is fine and while they are working on gentrification of the area.....I personally wouldn't want to stay right near it.

The Rockside Rd/Independence OH area is a nice safe area with lots of hotels, restaurants, shops, etc.... and ~15-20 minutes to downtown. I usually suggest this area for people looking for a nice and safe area to stay in for a Cleveland visit. Problem right now is that there is major construction in that area on I-77/480 and those are your routes to downtown and the east. It's doable...but I know that when I'm somewhere I'm not familiar with it kinda freaks me out to have closures and detours.

Downtown Cleveland is fine. Nice hotels, but you are paying downtown premiums. Downtown Cleveland is quite busy during the week. Lots of traffic during rush hours.

To the west of Cleveland I'd recommend the Middleburgh Hts area hotels.....AKA our "airport" hotels. South of our airport....but honestly quite a further distance from our downtown area. You'd be looking at more like 30-45 minutes to the Clinic.

To the east is even MORE traffic going in and out of downtown. I don't know that would be a better option. But someone from that side of town might have better advise.

Rockside Road/Independence area would also be my suggestion. The Hyatt Place is very nice, and often can be found for discounts on Hotwire.

Another vote for Independence/Rockside area. The hotels near the Clinic are all clean. DO NOT USE the University Inn at 36th and Euclid. The Comfort Inn around East 22 & Euclid is ok, but I would choose Independence before that.

The parking is easy, and if your family is using the garage, ask at the valet area or the Red Coats (volunteers that are wonderful) if they can get the discounted parking passes. If you are going to be there a few days you may save a few bucks on that. Try not to venture outside of the area of the clinic at night. It can be a bit rough.

The staff there is wonderful and if there is anything you need, ask anyone in a red coat.

Hi there. I live in Akron (30 min south of Cleveland). Cleveland is a little bit confusing to travelers as the airport is nowhere near actual Cleveland and Cleveland Clinic Main Campus is not downtown either. It is fairly confusing when you are used to other cities. I would recommend staying in the Mayfield/Mayfield Hts area right at Rt 271 (several options within about 3 exits between 480/271 split and 422 if you are looking on google maps go as far south as Macedonia and as far north as Mayfield/Beachwood) or Rockside Road area in Independence. They are on opposite sides of Cleveland but your total distance to the Clinic would be about the same, Independence is slightly further. Please note that traffic on both 77 and 271/480 is very heavy during morning and evening rush. Morning congestion is going to be heaviest from about 7:45-9:30am and evenings 5-7. Lots of stop and go and will take you longer than planned to reach your destinations. Do not stay in Downtown Cleveland. It is out of your way and priced for conventions, sporting events, concerts, etc. You will have much better luck in the burbs. Westlake was mentioned above and although it is lovely it is one of the highest priced areas (home to lots of the professional athletes, etc) and also far flung from the Clinic main campus.
