Any AP Biometric Scan Tips?

We just got back from WDW and had a great time (even with the hurricane).....

It was our first time getting APs and I just wanted to ask, am I the only one out there that can't get the hang of the biometric scan?

My DW can do it with no problem, she even showed me several times how to do it, but it still takes me about 3 times as long to get it to work.....

Any hints or tips on getting it quicker?

Push down with the tip of your finger and hold it there. Mine always worked and my husband always had a hard time making it work. I saw a lot of people having trouble with it.

I can never get mine to work all the time either. I've had different CM's tell me completely different ways to do it and I still can't get it to work. The last time we were in WDW I tried several times to get it to work at MK and it didn't. The CM said I should go to guest services to see if they could fix it, but he let me through. Well we were in a hurry and forgot to stop. That afternoon we went to MGM and it worked on the first time. So who knows!
I'm just always ready to show ID just incase. Maybe they like to pick on us.;)

It could be that when you did it the first time you held your fingers at a funny angle and now it takes a little bit more time to scan and match your fingers to those on record...

I find if I just lay my fingers slightly against the knob in the middle, no extra pressure , it works just fine...

Basically you put your fingers in and then squeeze them together tight on to the little metal thingys in the middle.

If you look at the diagram on the machine showing you where to put your fingers for the scan you'll see there are little lights - when they all come on you've passed the scan, if one isn't lit - say top of your index finger then that's the bit you need to concentrate on bringing in to closer contact with the metal thingys. :)

We use the same kind of scanner here for our time clock. I always have trouble at WDW, and I have trouble here, too! No matter what I do, it takes at least four attempts before the scanner will read me! I don't mind trying three or four times to get through the gate at WDW, but it drives me crazy to do it here, since I won't have nearly as much fun all day!

BF had such an easy time.. I seemed to have trouble every time! It was annoying :(

My hubby rarely had a problem, but I always seem to. I usually have a ring or 2 on, so my theory was that maybe they are getting in the way. My fingers aren't very long either & it was uncomfortable to try & squeeze that metal thing.

We're getting AP's again in Sept - I'm hoping if maybe I get a better "1st" scan, it'll be easier from then on out. :D

With me, if I tried to squeeze the metal thingy, it rejected me. It was only when I started being very relaxed about putting my hand up there that I got through without any trouble.

Thanks for all the great tips (and it's nice to know I'm not the only one)....

We're going back in December, so I'll see if I get any better at it.

Maybe I'm just so excited to get into the parks that I don't want to wait that extra 5 seconds to do it properly.....

:D

I've had trouble in the past, but last time I found that if it didn't pass me right away, if a moved my fingers a little until the light showed it was OK, it would let me through.

We have the handpunch (biometric) scanners at work and I've been told that a ring or even the length of fingernails can affect the comparison. In other words...if you have short nails when taking your initial "template" but grow them out(or vice versa) when next you try to scan...it might not get a match. Similarly, if you take the template with a big ring on but next time you're not wearing it, that can affect it. Also, until the fingers are in the proper position (pushed up against the pin with the two fingers squeezed together) you won't get a read.

And for those not sure...it does NOT take your fingerprints!!

Mine always went fine, but Dh often had trouble until one day entering the park I could NOT get it to work--to the point where they checked my ID. After I walked through I realized I was holding my son on my right hip and I usually went into the park with him already in his stroller. Thus, I was doing the finger scan on my left hand when every other time I had used my right. AHA!

Some of the machines are a bit different than the other too. I've noticed that on some of the machines, it's not possible for me to get my fingers as far in as other machines (when you are pushing as far in as you can and the only way to get your fingers in any farther is to remove a knuckle, then you know the machine is the problem and not your technique). I had a problem with the ones at the WS gate every time. DH nver had a problem ther, but did at another park.
I've also had the worst luck when trying (or being told by the CM) to squeeze the metal thing in the center. I was told by one CM that thing has nothing in it to "register" your squeeze, it's just there to separate your fingers for a reading. But, some of the CMs seem to think you need to squeeze it tightly, and when you try to do that, you tense your hand up and are not likely to match your past readings (unless you have the same level of tenseness each time).
