We close on our old house today and the POD is coming! We're putting everything in storage for about a month. During that month, we'll be splitting time between family and going to Disney World!:Pinkbounc
We close on our new home that is being finished when we return!
Any packing experts out there? Anyone else use PODS for storage?
Any advice on dealing with all the stress and excitement? I don't think I slept or eaten in about a month!
Thanks!

I'm not sure what PODS is - but here is my advice:

Throw out crap NOW. Don't store it and drag it to the new house - donate it to local charities/volunteer firehouses/shelters if you can. (this made my life so much easier - I had 3 piles - apartment/storage/trash. (we moved to an apartment for 6 months while our new house was being built.)

start in one room and just work around it. label EVERYTHING in permanent marker. OR - start in the living room - start with pictures - go around the house and gather ALL the pictures and pack them together, then candles/knick-knacks/etc...

Best of luck to you!!

Time to move, Jill. My best for you and Dave, and good wishes in the new home. Sounds like you have the stress and excitement figured pretty well, family (are we in that group too? :)) and Disney World. ::MickeyMo ::MinnieMo We've never moved, both went from our folks' homes when we got married, 33 years ago, to the home we are in still. I can't imagine moving, LOL. But I am sure you'll do well and both be all set for all those kids again after the summer. :hyper: Good advice above, throw out what you can, just remember, trash in the garbage/recycling, crap in the toilet.

Have a good move. :wave2:

I am SO envious! A new house AND Disney World? You are the luckiest ever!

I've never used PODS before but I'm a former military wife so I've moved a zillion times. stinkerbelle gave you some great advice about sorting and purging BEFORE you move. I keep trying to emphasize this point with DH.

We just closed on our house on Monday. We're in a rented townhouse now and our lease isn't up till the end of July--I thought this would give me time to pack & move slowly but DD & DH are driving me crazy wanting to get over there right away! I have no vacation time till July so that's out of the question. I finally sat DH down last night and just asked him to please stop rushing me--I'm just so overwhelmed. The new house has been vacant for 9 months--it's in great shape--but I need to get in there and scrub the floors, clean light fixtures, paint DD's new room, etc BEFORE we start moving in! Plus pack the townhouse and work full time. He finally calmed down a bit and apologized for stressing me out so I'm hoping that things will go better now.

Enjoy yourself at WDW and best wishes on your new home!

Definitely get rid of the garbage. Anything not used in a year gets tossed! I just moved at the end of March. I tossed some stuff out before going. I tossed even more stuff out after I brought it with me to the new place! :faint: I lost 400 square feet. :faint: And I now understand why people sell their furniture before moving! But if you're moving in the general area you're in now, it's probably not a big deal. I know that PODS is, but I've never used it.

PODS is portable storage. They bring a unit to your front door, you load it, they take it away and store it then take it to your new front door. It sounds good and we've had friend who have used it, so please keep your fingers crossed!
I just called for the temporary insurance for the contents--never hurts to be extra safe!
I'm trying to get rid of as much as possible. We're just moving ten minutes away, but since we're putting things into storage we can't do "trips" to the new house. It's all got to go in either the POD or the climate control place down the street that we got for electronics and other things we didn't want rattled around.
The details are huge! I'm afraid I'm going to forget something important......
Thanks for the tips!
NMAmy--we DO feel extremely lucky! We had our usual DVC trip planned(and paid for;) ) this year way in advance. When we put our house on the market we never dreamed it would sell in just 4 days! Since the trip is already taken care of and we're basically homeless, we decided not to cancel but to go "home" to DVC.
Life is funny sometimes.....

Dan,
I cannot imagine that! The longest I have lived anywhere since leaving the nest has been two years! I just bet your house is paid off! It is isn't it? Only 28 years and three months to go for me. I am depressed now!

As for the moving, take nothing you don't have to! Make room for the new junk you will get.
