Congratulations!!! I hope you are enjoying your pregnancy despite the tummy aches.
I was sick well into the ninth month. I never had to be hospitalized, but I threw up all the time. I lost weight for the first 5 months! I only say that to say I tried EVERYTHING! And at different stages, different things worked. So, here is my list, and you can try them. Good luck!
I have to brush my teeth first thing in the morning. I cannot/could not eat before brushing, so the eating in bed thing was out for me.
The following was a diet I followed for a long, long time.
Lots of these are easy to carry in your purse or keep in the car:
Peppermint candies (with real peppermint oil) - suck on them
Lemon drops - (with real lemon) suck on them
Archway ginger cookies
B6 vitamins (doc can probably also recommend others to help)
Tums (I didn't have heart burn, but I belched like Bart Simpson all the time!) Also, good for settling the stomach
Ginger ale
Sea bands - The didn't work for me, but you might as well try them
Packaged Cheese and crackers
Packaged Peanut Butter and crackers
In extreme situations, Dramamine (especially helpful when traveling) Of course, check with your doc first!
Take your pre-natals at night so they can digest in your stomach.
Caffeine - If your doc doesn't mind. SInce I couldn't keep anything down, he said this was okay since it eased the throwing up. ALso, some times a hot drink made me feel better:
Coffee (less caffeine than soda)
Tea (less caffeine than coffee) With ginger, peppermint, etc.
When you are too sick to eat anything, you have to eat something, so head for a protien, it is supposed to help with the sickness:
Mashed potatoes - no gravy or butter (KFC was very helpful here)
Baked potato - no fixins (Wendy's was helpful here) (to this day, I no longer eat baked potatoes)
Peanut Butter - if you can live with the smell and after taste
Granola bars with peanut butter
Cheese
Bologna (I hate this normally)
Avoid fried foods
The wierdest thing that happened to me. I would throw up anytime I saw this one commercial. It was of a woman shoving food into a toaster. Not sure what the product was, but it made me throw up if I saw it!
Eat what you crave!!!
Doctors are usually quick to help with the throwing up, because throwing up causes you to become dehydrated, and being dehydrated can send you into early labor, so be sure and ask your doc for help with morning sickness.
If I think of anything else, I will return to edit my post. Otherwise, congratulations and enjoy! Good luck with the morning sickness!
