I am not sure if this question will make sense but if I have a UY of April and I buy via resale additional points at the same or a different resort is there any advantage to having a different use year?

Thanks,
Kate

If you will travel at various times of the year, having an additional Use Year may be useful for planning purposes. It will also add a little additional need to monitor banking deadlines and banked points.

If all contracts have the same Use Year the points can easily be combined for use from within the single contract without the need to transfer points between contracts.

IMO, there not enough advantage either way to make a difference. I would not pass up a good resale value because it has a different Use Year and would not pay extra for a resale with the same Use Year.

We have 4 different Use Years at 2 resorts and have had no problem tracking point usage, banking and have never found the need to transfer points. Either way, if it's a good deal - go for it! :)

I have 3 different use years, and I found that useful when I was teaching, so that I could use different contracts for spring break, summer and Christmas visits. Now that I am retired, I can travel whenever I want, so it's not quite as big a deal as it used to be, and, like Doc, I don't have any trouble keeping track of 3 contracts. My contracts are 175,250,and 270 pts. I am getting rid of 2 contracts, though, that have separate use years, and only 25 pts each. Those two little contracts do seem to get lost easily when they aren't connected to larger contracts, so I would think twice before buying a tiny contract that's not in the same use year as a bigger contract.;)

Having different use years will allow you freedom to book spontaneous trips when booking outside DVC provided you have the points in that contract etc.

I'm sorry, I'm new to DVC, what is use year? I thought you can use your points each year?

I just bought a 160 point contract and very confused now.... Anything I should know?

robin09,
Your Use Year(UY) is the anniversary in which you receive a new set of points each year. Example: I have a Feb UY for my BCV points. Every Feb I get a new set of points (unless I borrowed some)... What is your UY?

One pitfall from different use years is that you cannot combine points from two different contracts for a single night. So if you have one contract with only a few points left in it for the year, you'd have to transfer from another one or transfer that one to a different one to get a single night.

If your contracts are all add-ons (same master contract number, different suffixes), you can use points from those for a single night.
