Oh my gosh! They are everywhere out side! Tons of hills along the drive way but worse colonies in my flower bed! I reached over to grab some weeds and ended up disurbing a next! I flinched and flung it...of course my poor son (6) was standing right there helping! Got covered in ants! I am screaming and brushing them off and he is loving it! Thinks it is so funny to get an ant shower! Thank goodness this isn't Flordia with those Fire ants!

We have them everywhere in our yard too. I've never seen so many ants! Luckily, they haven't found a way inside.

Outside ants I can handle, it is the Carpenter Ants we seem to have in the house that drive me nuts! The landlrd is supposed to have someone come and look at the sitiuation as it is really bad. (we vaccum and clean every day, yet they are still coming!! We also tried the bait traps and even some spray on the outside perimeter all to no avail!)

I have the same problem, piglet--although they technically aren't carpenter ants in my home, just big ants. Doing a massive spraying around the permeter of my home, and particularly around all doors and windows, seems to be the only thing that stops them....but that only lasts a year or two, and then they are back again. Funny thing, too, is it seems to only be a problem in the spring; come summer, they are pretty much gone. I don't know enough about ant habits to know why that is.

Stan the News Man reporting LIVE from Spinning's front yard!

There seems to be quite a disturbing trend this summer. Ants. They are popping up EVERYWHERE. Let's sit down and have an interview, shall we?

Stan: Mrs. queen fire ant, can you tell me a little bit about yourself?

Queen: Sure Stan! By the way we love your program! Well, as for myself, I'm 3 months old, pregnant, and a gemini. I like eating, having fun relationships and walking along the beach at sunset.

Stan:Thanks for the info. Can you tell me WHY you have so many "nests" here in spinning's yard?

Queen: Well, you see, I have kids... About 500,000 of them. And wel..... they need a place to live too ya know.

Stan: Well can you tell me about your childrens' attempt to devour Spinnings' child?

Queen: We were NOT trying to devour him! We just wanted to get a closer look at him!

Stan: Thanks for your time Mrs Queen.

And there you have it folks! The story behind the case of the summertime ants in spinnings' yard!

Stan the News Man signing off.

ICK...I hate ants!! And yes...I live in Florida and have those HORRIBLE fire ants. I can't tell you how many times I have been bitten by those things!! OWE!! Thank goodness every time I had sandals on so I could get them off fairly quickly. My mom, on the other hand, was mowing her lawn a couple weeks ago (wearing boots)...must have mown over a nest...then she felt it. They had gotten inside her boots!!! Poor girl has SO many bites. It's worse because they leave scars because of the poison in the venom.

Stan the man that cracked me up!
But doesn't make me happy about all these ants!

We have a lot of problems with ants here as well. Add in a small children that manages to get crumbs everywhere and it's a real mess. One thing I've discovered that really keeps ants away is mint. Try planting in around the foundation of the house. Also try opening mint tea bags and sprinkling it in cabinets, behind the frig etc. It does work and is safe around kids and pets.
