Ants at port parking lot

I have seen the warnings about not leaving food in your car at the port. I wouldn't leave food on purpose, but we drive a van, and I'm always finding a mystery french fry, etc. How bad is it? An ant invasion would make a miserable trip back to Illinois.

We were warned about the ants so made sure we dumped our trash. Maybe throw a couple of ant traps in your car or spray a little raid around your doors. I too would hate to find the car full of ants, even though it is a rental.

We've had openned boxes of crackers,etc and never had a problem thus far. We did have a problem in Vero Beach with ants marching through the suburban. In our van I'm sure we have more than just mystery fries on the floor! I alkways do a quick search and hope they find something else to chew on.

On our first trip, we had no food, but missed a couple of hamburger wrappers when we were cleaning out in a hurry before the cruise, and we were invaded. It's not like the parking lot is one big ant mound, but I guess these ants have learned a thing or two about a free meal ticket. We were more careful the next few times and had no problems. Dump all your trash and you should be safe.

I am working on an ant cam for the parking lot, so you can use the onboard computer to scan around and check your car during the cruise.

When we came back from a three day last labor day weekend, my cousin's tahoe had been invaded. The ants had started eating the foam covers off of their headphones. They were bringing in dirt to build a bed. I had to think what would have happened had we been on a seven day. The whole car would have been gone

Yuck.....it would freak me out knowing I had to share a car trip home with some insects....ick!!!
