Another Wii question -

MIL came up for Christmas last year and got us a Wii as a family present. Just the Wii Sports and Wii Play that came with the system and remote were enough to get us started for a while. Creating a Mii for each person in the family and compteting in the sports and games is alot of fun for all ages. My extended family (siblings, parents, grandparents) came over often to play and they all have a Mii on our system. Do the kids know you're getting the Wii? If not, I would surprise them with the Wii and play with just the sports & wii play for a few days after Christmas. Then maybe one of their gifts could be to go out and each pick out a game that they want.

I would not suggest getting 4 remotes. That just seems unnecessary. We have two and that has been sufficient. Most games only have two player options or the remotes can be shared for more than two players. If you decide you need extra remotes you can buy them later, but I would be upset to buy them and then not ever use them.

The Mario games are really fun. We have Super Mario Galaxy and MarioKart. Those are our most played games along with the Wii Sports.

Thanks! Unless I can find a really great deal between now and Christmas, I won't be buying anything extra right now. The boys will get christmas money that they can go out and pick out a game or something-including Daddy :thumbsup2

I'd have reasonable expectations. We are a video game family - and my kids at four and six had no ability to use video games - well, my son did a little at four - but it wasn't really until six before he got it.

Thanks! DS4 is amazing with things like that-he loves to play Dora candy land on the computer and play his leapster. He's got a Cars video game that he earns playing time with Daddy on for the xbox.

Just in case they can't do the Wii, or it looks like it will be a problem, I got them a cheap, knock off plug and play games for their little tv in the playroom. (not trying to sound like a well off family or spoiled kids-Christmas is the one time I really go out of my way to try and make everyone "happy" with the reasonable requests on their lists. Without knowing if I would get a Wii or not, I got the other games!)

I don't expect the baby, DS2, to be able to do a whole lot though sometimes he surprises us.

But, if she doesn't have a Gamecube, will she need to buy a different controller to use the Gamecube games on the wii?

We do have the game cube with controller and lots of games.

My kids have no idea. I just started looking into this because I really want it :lmao: I need to start exercising and get in shape. My family would benefit also. It is dark when I leave the house in the AM now, almost dark when I get home and soon we will have snow and ice to contend with ....so....maybe this will get me motivated.

Anyone have a ballpark on a total price for the Wii and Wii Play with a controller?

Another person has another thread on some stuff she found at LTD. I did look and it is stuff like the wrist bands, rechargeable batteries and chargers and a cooling station for the Wii unit. What does everyone think of stuff like that?

If you're going to get a Wii (and since we got ours last week, I highly recommend it:happytv: ) I suggest that you also buy a rechargable battery set w/charger (we found it next to the extra Wii motes, Wiimote jackets and nunchucks). I've heard that the Wiimotes can eat batteries like there is no tomorrow, so the rechargables are a good deal. I think we paid 15$ for two rechargable battery packs and the charger itself. The only thing is, with the charger (or at least with ours) you can't have the jacket on the Wiimote. It has to come off for the charger to work properly.

I hear ya. I am already afraid of the long, dark winter and what it is going to do with the 20 lbs I managed to loose over the summer.
We actually just bought a Wii yesterday at Target. (Janesville) The console is $249.00 and it comes with sports game, one numchuck and one remote, batteries and cables. Still looking for the fit and wondering if I want to pay for it.

DH already hurt himself playing baseball.:rotfl:

We have had ours since March and we're still using the same batteries. I'm sure they'll die eventually, but so far, no problems.

We LOVE our Wii Fit. It isn't absolutely necessary to have one, but it sure is a wonderful addition to our repetoire and has gotten everyone moving, even me! It's very motivating and fun.

We like the Wii Fit too. DD really love the Wii ski game for it also.

DD is wanting one. (Of course, she's also asked for a guitar so this may have to be a gift for the family if we get one.) She's 17 and DS is 21, but only home for school vacations. Any other suggestions of good places to buy? I was sort of hoping for black Friday deals, but just read that's probably not going to happen this year - except maybe for games.

Any suggestions for good games for the older kids/adults? Both kids and their dad have played a lot of PS2 and computer video games....so they'll be good at anything. I'm computer game challenged, so not so sure about myself.

I'm also curious about Gamecube games...do they work with the Wii only if you have Gamecube controlers? I might buy a few of them cheap to add to it, but maybe not if I have to buy more stuff to use them.
