I'm a new DVC member planning my first DVC visit in December. I'm an Aulani owner wondering what are my chances to book a one bedroom at AKV Christmas week (22nd -29th). Planning to take a cruise before that and want to do a WDW visit since I am already there. I've been searching the boards and found that there is usually availability at SSR and OKW. I've stayed at SSR through an exchange with my other timeshare so I woudn't mind staying there but it's so spread out and DH wasn't too thrilled about their transportation. Should I give OKW a try instead if I can't get AKV?

Thanks!!!!

If you are thinking about Christmas 2010 and don't already have a reservation, you should call asap and take whatever you can get. I don't think there is much available for that week anywhere at this point.

If you are asking about 2011, then IMO, you have a good chance of getting into AKV at the 7 month mark, especially if you are willing to waitlist. AKV is one of the larger WDW DVC resorts and even though Christmas week is very popular, there haven't been a lot of posters reporting that they were unable to get in at 7 months. I'm assuming you would accept either a savanna view or a standard view and aren't picky about the building (Jambo or KidanI). The concierge and value categories are very limited and usually book up before the 7 month window opens.

Yes this is for Christmas 2011....not too picky about the building...would really love a savanna view but I'll take what is available...we've never stayed there so we want to give it a try....Thanks for your reply!!!

Hey there, if you can't AKV, then I would definitely try OKW instead of SSR. It's one of the bigger resorts, so it is still quite spread out, but you have a good chance of getting in. It's a lovely resort with big rooms and some have lovely views over the golf course, so I'm sure you would enjoy it

If you only own at Aulani, I don't think you can use your points until Aulani actually opens next August. So you wouldn't be able to book at the 7 month window - I believe the date you can use your points is August 29th, 2011.

My understanding is that as long as the portion of the unit she purchased at Aulani is open for occupancy prior to the dates of her vacation, she can call to make the AKV reservation at 7 months. It's the stays that have to "match up", not the booking windows.

AKV is not too hard to get, especially Kidani Village. Studios and 1-bedrooms in the Savannah view I can usually get even 4 months before check-in. And I also find Christmas day (surprisingly) not as hard to get as some other holidays like Thanksgiving or New Year's Eve.

Thanks for the clarification - I get it now.

I would think you will have a good chance to book AKV, Kidani Village at the 7 month mark for Christmas week 2011. But you might have problems with OKW as a lot of the OKW owners book their home resort in December. SSR probably would be available too.

It never hurts to try. Here's some pixiedust: to help you get your reservation.
