Woman Dies in Fall at Amusement Park Ride
PIGEON FORGE, Tenn. (AP) - A woman fell 60 feet to her death Sunday from an upside-down amusement park ride, police said.
June Alexander, 51, died from injuries suffered after she fell from ``The Hawk'' at Rockin' Raceway. The ride is shaped like a ship and rocks back and forth, going higher each time. It eventually turns completely upside down.
Alexander, of Nashville, fell 60 feet when the ride turned upside down, said Lt. Lynn Wilhoite of the Pigeon Forge Police Department. She was taken to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
``We don't know why this happened,'' Wilhoite said.
Representatives from the park's insurance company and the ride manufacturer planned to inspect the site, which has been secured by police.
No one else was injured, he said.
Dollywood also is in Pigeon Forge, about 30 miles southeast of Knoxville.
