ANOTHER Tivo question from me!

I took this from the tivo website.

A standard phone line is required once during setup. You can then continue to use your phone or connect your box to an existing wired or wireless home network and broadband. Your TiVo® box will never interfere with your phone service or Internet connection.

That's not necessarily true any longer. It depends on what version of the software comes/came pre-loaded on your TiVo box. The newer versions of the software now allow guided set-up via broadband connection. However, unfortunately, it may not be possible to know what version of the software is/was pre-loaded on your TiVo box until you plug it in.

True the one at Target for 19.99 I had to take back because it was an older version and I don't use a phone line anymore.
I was just curious because so far it has been a nightmare trying to get it hooked up w/o a phone line. I figured out though I need to order some usb thingy from tivo -I need immediate gratification! The waiting is killing me!

You can connect to the TIVO service via a broadband connection and not use a phone line. Any series 2 TIVO has the software built in to manually add a server.

Hope this helps!
