Another Ticket Question - Downgrading from Hopper to WPF&M?

I didn't see the answer in the sticky created by Cheshire Figment, so I figured I would ask.

We are taking a trip to WDW in late May / early June this year. We have decided to purchase 7 day non-hopper (base) tickets with the waterpark and more option.

The cost for a 7 day ticket with WPF&M on Undercover Tourist is $407.95. (Savings of ~$16 - Regular $424.94)

UCT best deal is a 4 day hopper with WPF&M for $381.95. (Savings of ~$38 - Regular $420.68).

Now my questions...
Can I purchase the 4 day hopper with WPF&M for $381.95...use it the first day without hopping...then upgrade the ticket to a 7 day (non-hopping) WPF&M?

The gate price on the 7 Day (non-hopping) WPF&M ticket is $424.94 and the gate price of the 4 day hopper with WPF&M is $420.68. So, I would need to pay $4.26.

If this is possible...I would have a 7 day WPF&M for $386.21 instead of $407.95 out of pocket. I would save $21.74 per ticket. Since I have to purchase 7 tickets, the savings would add up.

Thanks
Speedy

I was just told you can upgrade, you just can't downgrade. And it needs to be done before you use the tickets.

Upgrading normally should be done AFTER using a ticket to go into a theme park at least one time.

Keep in mind that if you only buy a 4 day ticket, you will only be able to book fastpasses for 4 days.

1. Yes.

2. If you pay more for a "new" ticket, that is considered an "upgrade" and is OK.
If the cost is the same as the original ticket (but the assets are different) that is considered an "exchange," and is OK.

But, you can't get a refund in cash for a new ticket that costs less than the one you wish to change.
Maybe… sometimes (SOMETIMES) you might find an accommodating CM who will issue the difference back to you on a Disney gift card.

Robo...that's what I thought. As long as you are changing tickets to something of equal or greater value, it is considered an "upgrade". I'm pretty sure that I also read (at some point) on these boards that you cannot hop on the ticket and then exchange it down to a non-hopping ticket. Same with the water parks and more...you cannot go to a water park one day, then decide the next day that you want to switch the ticket to a non-WPF&M ticket. That's why we would use the ticket to enter the park the first day (arrival day) and immediately change the tickets from 4 day to 7 day tickets.

This is the exact opposite of what Guest Services told me on Friday.

Then, it's a good thing you came by HERE! ;)

BTW, where you on the PHONE with them, or in-person?

1. That's correct.
2. Yup.

You line about this is always to use a ticket at least one time to enter a Theme Park,
before doing the upgrade.

mchelle77... I have upgraded many tickets in the past from regular, Undercover Tourist tickets to DVC annual passes. I know for sure that one day must be used on a ticket purchased from an authorized ticket broker (like UCT) for the discount to stay in tact. They basically bridge the ticket up to the gate price...then you pay the gate difference between the old ticket and new ticket. If you don't use the ticket first, you will be paying the difference between the gate price of the new ticket and the price you actually paid (discount price) of the old ticket.

Yes. You would actually be LOSING money in the deal.

On the phone - was talking to a CM, then was transferred to GS when I had a resort issue (feel free to go find MY recent issue with tickets in the Resort area :) ) I've spent more time on the phone with Disney (WDW and DCL) over the last week than I have with my entire family all month!

The "phone CMs" are absolutely NOTORIOUS for offering bad information about park operations.
Just horrible info!

Consider that if you ask THERE, you are just stuck with what they tell you, good or bad.

If you ask HERE, your question will be fielded by a potential of dozens of experienced
posters who will correct any bad info within very little time.

I would love your input into my situation, if you have time ... in the "resorts" thread, I posted about getting no response re: resort/ticket change!

I think I found it over on the Resorts board.
