another ticket price increase? really?

Wow, this price increase took everyone by surprise. I had no clue until I saw the Orlando Sentinel article on Saturday evening, and that article was not clear on whether just the 1-day tickets were going up, or whether all tickets were going up.

My SIL asked if we should send out an email and I said no, because we didn't know if it was really an issue at that point. If the increase was only on 1-day tickets, it wouldn't affect 99% of MouseSavers readers. Plus, with only 12 hours' notice on a Saturday night, most subscribers wouldn't even see it in time.

Really sucks that Disney was so sneaky about this. In previous years the announcement was made on Friday afternoon, giving us 36 hours' notice. Plus, for the last couple of years, Disney put all the new pricing up on its Disney Parks Blog on Friday afternoon, so everyone could see what's coming. There has still been no announcement on the blog.

Adding to the problem is that ticket price increases have usually been announced at a predictable time of year (early June), so we could warn people in the 2 months prior to go ahead and buy tickets early.

In short, this was not a failing on my SIL's part. We could not have done anything different -- which I think is deliberate on Disney's part.

Mary, thanks for the post. I think most of us were caught off guard! Just wanted to say thanks for doing a wonderful job; Love, Love, Love, Mousesavers!!!

Saw the link on mousesavers Facebook. Caught us also by surprise. Still needed to get tickets for our upcoming June trip. Compared new/current Disney ticket prices verses undercover and undercover was about $125 or so less expensive than Disney. So needless to say I bought them, I'm sure undercover will have a busy Monday filling orders.

This was for 2 adults 1 child and a 5 dayhopper

We needed 2/ 5 day MYW which we were going to wait on but figured may as well just order them now. Yup, UT will be very busy this week!

03/05/1986 4-for-1
05/15/1992 4-for-1
07/09/1998 3-for-1

One share in 1973 would be 48 shares today. At Friday's closing price of $80, those 48 shares would be worth $3,840.

In 1973, one share would have been 3 day's work for me, pre-tax. I think one share is much more affordable now. Only a few hours work.

Have a gander at THAT thread over there, if you will. ;)

I went through an old mousesavers email link I had and bought a non expiring 10 day PH WP&M ticket from UT for my son. Not sure if it actually saved anything since I can't figure out if those prices went up or not, but I panicked. :rotfl: It was the one ticket I meant to also get before the last price increase but missed out on. UT had them available, I waited a couple of days and when I called back to purchase they were sold out. :headache:

In any case I think the prices have increased substantially especially for flexible tickets. After my family uses up the tickets we bought before the previous increase, I think we'll be taking a long break from WDW.

I can only think it's connected to the entertainment overhaul they've had lately. They've gotten rid of a lot of acts, especially in AK with the pandora construction. Right now there are really no parades. But it is a but annoying that they raised the prices again. It seems like the only way you'd be able to afford to visit is if you were a cast member and my CM friends complained only because if the prices of tickets go up then why haven't their pay rate one up as well?

Disney is doing a great job changing everyone's mind-share that the place is going to pot.

Annoying FP+ (which would still be annoying even if it worked perfectly)
Poor maintenance
Mine Train attraction taking longer than if it had literally been carved from stone
Everything costs too much

UH NO !! Not everyone's mind kevdo........My family believes it gets better every year. Never have seen over the top maintenance problems. MIne Train looks worth waiting for !!!!!! Who cares if it takes a little longer and actually loved that they opened New Fantasyland in stages. FP+ is awesome ! Now can get my later in the day passes without getting up at crack of dawn. And most everything that costs a lot is well worth it when vacationing at WDW :)

But I thought the Dis is the only message board that has negative people?
Heavens no. WDWMagic makes the DIS appear to be full of rainbows and unicorns---and it more or less always has. It would be interesting someday to chart the differences in sentiment of the various major boards. The now-defunct TGM was easily the most pixie-dust infused.

As an aside: I'm betting you could take just about any entertainment cost, and its plot vs. CPI would look about the same. They all seem to rise faster than inflation. I'm not sure why that is, but it does seem to be consistent.

We plan on purchasing through Orbitz for tickets tonight since they appear to be the old price still and the vouchers can now be linked to MDE, using Ebates as well, since I'm afraid shipping might take a million years on UT, like when the last price increase, and our tickets won't get here soon enough for our 60 day FP+ reservation. Holy run on sentence.

Anyway, DBF and I are 20 and 21 respectively, no longer teenagers but young enough (and younger looking) to be patronized and are paying 100% of this trip on our own. So any bit saved is really important to us, and this increase really put a blow in our payment plan, hotel is paid in full, flights are ALMOST paid in full. Were hoping to wait a couple of weeks before we bought tickets, but alas, cest la vie. :confused3

You mean like this other great graph that kagacins made over there, too?

Undercover Tourist is VERY quick in their delivery. From your countdown it looks like you have 15 days before your 60-day window opens. That should be plenty of time for UT to send you your passes even though that may be slammed with customers.

We've used UT several times and always had speedy service!

sorry, but I think this is ridiculous... whats it been? 6 months since the last increase?
and they didn't even give advance Warning this time

The Orlando Sentinel just published this breaking news article:

Starting Sunday, Disney’s Magic Kingdom guests will have to fork over a few extra dollars for single-day park admission. The tickets now cost $99 for adults and children 10 years and up.
This $4 price hike keeps Magic Kingdom as the most expensive Disney park. A one-day ticket for Epcot, Animal Kingdom and Hollywood Studios will go from $90 to $94.
“Our pricing reflects the high quality and breadth of experiences we offer and our ongoing commitment to investing in our parks,” Disney spokesman Bryan Malenius said Saturday. “We offer a variety of ticket options that provide a great value, and find that most guests select multi-day tickets that offer additional savings.”
This is the second price hike in less than a year.
Universal Orlando also raised its prices last summer. A one-day, one-park ticket is $92.

I was just on the Universal site last night and a 1 day ticket was $128.
