The thing that bothers me the most is not the disagreeing, but the whole TONE of the thread and the SARCASM. That, I could live without, and you Eros, are the worst offender.

I did not read through all the replies, but why is there a problem with a thread being moved to the Debate Board. Isn't all the Dis a Community. Aren't we all Dis'ers or are the Debate Board Dis'ers from another planet.

We are a communiy, a community of Dis'ers Debate Boarders included.

Tee is right, the DB comment was not a dig at you, it was a joke. How many times have I personally attacked you on the board? And the mods/WMs never start threads or make posts on threads like "that single-minded, stubborn, repetitious EROS is a terrible poster". But we don't get the same courtesy even if we have done nothing to deserve it. I guess that is why we get paid the big bucks.
And just for the record, while some may construe what EROS says as mean and think he is "protected" by the mods, I have to say that is the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard!! NO ONE here is protected, you break the rules one too many times and you are asked to leave, it's not rocket science. Read the guidelines carefully and if you can show us what guidelines EROS breaks, we can review that. He speaks his mind and is very strong-willed. Some folks may feel that what he posts is inappropriate, but it is only his opinion, and THAT doesn't break the rules. And it IS only a bulletin board, not real life.

EROS I truly believe you will never get it. We do not disapprove of debate, differing opinions. It is the WAY you do it. I would be more than happy to discuss things with you and agree to disagree...but that is not how you approach it. You yell and scream...you are angry, and if we disagree we are narrowminded, conservative, and "misled". YOU are the one who is making it mean spirited.

aahmom, my experience on the Debate Board is that the "debaters" are stuffed shirts who do a good job of elucidating their positions without ever changing them . The same right-wing reactionaries that we see here are over there .

If you don't like what happens on the CB then don't post there. If you don't like what happens on the DB....then don't post there. No one is holding a gun to your head saying you have to post anywhere! Get over it already! As for the above comment......you preach about how put upon you are, yet you like to sling sarcastic labels at people as well. I would say there may be a couple people who fit the attacking, insulting description you posted above, but not many. Perhaps 1 or 2 out of 50. Don't act like a martyr, it isn't becoming.

For a person who has sooooo much trouble with this board it is beyond my comprehension why you are still here. It's getting so old it's pitiful.

If I had to scold my child this many times, he'd get no Christmas.

This same situation came up on my first go round with the CB about two years ago so you must like getting your hand slapped because you're still here.

I'd just like to add that when someone makes the claim that "dissenting opinions aren't allowed on the DIS" and they have personally posted literally thousands of negative comments about the guidelines, the moderators, and other posters. .. and those comments have been allowed to stay, then their argument is extremely flawed and unrealistic from the get-go, and it is getting very tiresome to have the same untrue claptrap expressed over and over and over. . .

I also don't see where having a thread moved to another board is "sad" . . . I thing the decision was completely justified and fair, and the only thing "sad" is that certain people feel the need to continually bash people who are volunteering their time and doing the best they can under ofttimes difficult circumstances. .

There are plenty of unmoderated sites out there Eros, feel free to join one or start your own. In the meantime, Webmasters and Moderators will make the decisions as far as what is appropriate for this site, and where it shall be placed. You can talk until your blue in the face....thats the bottem line. This thread is wearing on my patience.

I would agree with EROS in that it is "sad" when a topic started on this board is sent to another board that is less busy and not frequented by all the people who post on this board!!!
IMHO that is another way of trying to kill a thread without deleting it!!! People start certain threads on this board rather than lets say the debate board or news/rumors board becuase they want the discussion here and not else where. By moving it the moderators on this board are IMHO stifling that discussion.
Unless a topic is not warranted on a particuler board due to subject matter it should stay where it was orginally posted, unless of course the person who started the thread agrees to having it moved just like a poster can start a thread and then "whine" to get it deleted.
PS Its nice to have someone other than me bring this up!!!

All I can say to your thoughts Bob is that while I respect your right to make them, it's easy to sit on the sidelines and criticize when you aren't the one having to make the decisions, and you do not have all the information and aren't aware of all the various factors, some of which can't be shared in a public forum.. .

Considering you are a police officer, I would think you of all people would understand how frustrating that is. . . and at least you get paid for your time.. LOL!!

I would also like to say in general that the DIS is not a government institution; it is a privately funded endeavor- no one is denied access or participation based on race, creed, or color. . and the owner of the site has every right to set whatever editorial policies he wishes. . this whole "free speech" argument is bogus, and does not apply to this site any more then it applies to the New York Times or ABC.

Any person who puts up the capital to start what is essentially a media outlet has every right to limit what they consider appropriate and what isn't, and the 1st amendment is all about the government not telling them what that is and isn't, not disgruntled customers or voluntary participants. .

What is says is the government can't stop you from starting your own site and making your own decisions about content. . . it does not force any media outlet to provide a forum for any opinion or content submitted to them. . .

Eros my brother just thought that I would add MHO to this thread. I know that we hold polar opposite views on just about everything. With that being said, I do enjoy reading your post. I find them amusing most of the time and assumed that you enjoyed the attention you received from fellow posters. Its the only reason I can come up with as to why you continually come up with sarcastic labels for people that don’t hold the same point of view as yours.

It's quality not quantity. The DB may be less busy, but everyone who is there is there for one sole reason - to read or participate in debates. There are probably 10 times the amount of people who frequent the CB - but how many are there looking to join a debate?

The only real reason I can see for people not wanting a thread moved to the Debate Board is because the posters there are 'professional' debaters and the OP, an amateur no doubt, is afraid they'll lose the argument.
