Another sports streaming service????

I think this new service would be somewhere between $70-$100.
Based on? Considering RIGHT now, my Hulu Live is that much, and it already includes everything (ESPN+). So why would any consumer do a "straight swap"?

This may be a way for WDW/DL to capitalize on the FIFA World Cup in terms of a way for Disney to host big watch parties on property. Disney would possibly be able to legally show matches on big screens during the event. That would get both soccer fans in the theme parks and spending money on food and beer which makes Disney even more money. Just throwing that idea out there. Telemundo/Peacock (Universal owns both) will probably show the matches in their Universal Studios theme parks in some compacity since they own the tv rights for the Spanish version. Both theme parks will have visitors that will also plan on going to games during, before, or after their trip. Neither company is going to miss the opportunity to cash in on this event in their theme parks. They will have 2026 world cup merchandise and national team jerseys on sale for sure too (90% of all of the WS countries usually qualify for the WC every edition). Sorry for going off topic but I think Disney has more on its mind when it comes to this deal than just getting new revenue from subscribers.
I guess they could do the watch party at the ESPN Complex. They're NOT going to tie up Park space for a watch party. I don't think WC merchandise is going to be a big seller in WDW/DL. Will they have some? Maybe? Probably? But that's not going to be where people go to get their merch. If they can tie their IP in with it, then maybe. I don't know that broadcasting/streaming rights allows that though.

The WC is a couple of months two years from now. It may have a SLIGHT "extra" factor for Disney, but I don't think it will be as much as you think.

Orlando is a soccer town and Miami is hosting. I'm saying in the World Showcase area, downtown Disney, somewhere in Disney Hollywood Studios, and maybe the stage in front of the castle. Disney and Universal ate going to need factors to pull people into the theme parks during June to July 2026, more than you realize. The European and South American tourists will be making the WC their priority over Disney/Universal. Those theme parks need an extra draw to keep their soccer enthusiast guests just as happy as the non soccer ones. Otherwise, they will loose that annual tourist visiting market. This is bigger than the Olympics and NBC, Fox, and ABC know it. LA is hosting the USA twice as well.

At $40+, I won't be getting it. At $20, I probably would. I may become a fan of a different baseball team this year since I can watch all of some teams' games on Prime.

The problem is, marking out space for a watch party, although beneficial for those interested, does nothing but piss off those NOT interested. I would guess if someone is traveling to the US for the WC, they're not going to go to a theme park for a watch party (that will cost $100+, food and drink not included), they're going to go to the game. If their team isn't playing, THEN they go to the theme park.

Based on my understanding of crowd levels, they DON'T need an "extra draw" to get people in the gates.

The USA travelers who would normally go to Disney, will most likely make adjusts to visit before or after the tournament. Tourism all over the country during the tournament is going to be hectic and most Americans are not just going to do vacations like they normally do during that summer. June and July are not the best times to go to Disney/Universal. That's why I'm saying they both will go the extra mile. But again this is just my opinion. We won't know for sure what the theme parks plans are until December 2025 probably.

It won't be inside the parks. I could see something at WWoS or DS, in fact I'd expect it. But they aren't going to put it in one of the parks. Too many downsides for not much upside. If it doesn't draw, you look like an idiot with the marketing blunder. And if it does draw, you piss off all of your customers that don't care by blocking the way. Put it in the arena and the stadium at WWoS and even if it's not that well attended you can make it look like it, especially if the price isn't bad and you can pull in the locals.

My point is Disney and Universal will be emptier than usual that summer.

The biggest theme park to open in the US since 1999 will be open by then. There is no way that Universal in particular is going to be quiet.
Universal owns some of the tv rights to the WC. They will take advantage of it. I could be completely wrong but a tournament that's expected to bring in 5 billion dollars or more in a matter overall month will want every big business to take advantage of it as much as possible. The novelty of the new theme park will be minor compared to the tournament in June 2026. Orlando missed out on hosting, so the theme parks have to make up for that revenue loss. This tournament usually only comes once to the USA every 30 years. It's not about the sport and who likes it or not. It's about the fanfare and unique celebrations that come with it.

My point is that for dedicated theme park goers, the new theme park will be more of a draw than the World Cup. Both resorts will probably do something for the occasion (for WDW it'll probably stay at the Wide World of Sports) but I doubt attendance will drastically drop because of it.

We'll see. 🤷‍♂️
