Another Shooting??? Just heard on MSNBC..

I keep wondering if this person picks his target area and the waits for a white vehicle (wouldn't take very long as there are so many) to enter the area and then shoots. I say this because several differnet types of white vehicles have been sighted. This way everyone keeps looking for a white van(box truck) and he gets away easily. Just a thought....

This whole situation is unbelievable. My twins were in 2 hours of EXTREME lockdown today, and I spent 4 hours round trip from home to Quantico to grocery shop and get gas. It took 45 minutes at the pumps. I guess everyone had the same idea. The longest part was the roadblock we encountered on Route 1. We were greeted by officers with drawn machine guns, and MP's with drawn??? at a roadblock by base. My neighbor called in a report of a van matching the description reported, after 25 minutes on hold. They said they were going right out to the spot. Then my sister-in-law, who lives in Arlington reported a van matching the description, and she was told that without a licsence plate number they would not send anybody out. They have reported on the news to "stay between the pump and your car" if you need to gas up, and to "zig-zag" from the parking lot to any store entrance. I hope that all of my friends and neighbors on the DIS that live locally remain safe.

We live in the county where it all started and I work for the local school system in a central office.

"Lock downs" even in our central offices are becoming common and scary. We drive our 16 year to school even though a sniper's car would be very visible in our neighborhood. Our son was calm at first but even he is starting to worry and so are we! Parents were asked to organize and stand at bus stops or walk kids to school and have rallied in large numbers.

The police are much more visible around here now. We live a few miles from Interstate 270 and we know that the officials are doing everything they can!

It's amazing how many ripple effects surround this continuing series of events. I'm an Assistant Scoutmaster and our Scout troop meets in a community center that has big window walls on three sides so we cancelled last week's meeting but will have to make a decision about next week's soon. We don't want to worry the parents or give a false sense of security but we value safety above all! My boss's Cub Scout den didn't feel it was safe to sell popcorn just inside the local grocery store because it had big glass panels. Some of our friends are afraid to buy gas, get groceries, go to ATMs out in the open and go to Michael's for crafts or costumes. We often go out for lunch at work but now order in more often. I can't imagine Halloween in our neighborhoods!

You can rationalize that the odds are against your being singled out and that when it's your time; it's your time but that really doesn't help you get through the minutes of worry of the day by Day 9!

I'm burying my fears in pin collecting and scrapbooking but there's so much to worry about!

Please pray for the capture of this person(s) soon and the families of the victims.

I was in the hospital Cardiac Intensive Care Unit waiting room when the news of today's shooting came across the TV. Everybody stopped, listened, and were visably moved. Cries of, "Oh, no!" and prayers were heard.

A thousand miles away, in a room filled with family members of patients whose lives were hanging by a thread, the news grabbed our hearts. We were drawn to the TV's in horror and disbelief.

I don't know what to say to comfort those of you in the area. I wish I could help. Please know that there are many of us praying for you.

I truly feel for the family of yesterday's shooting, a 53 year old man from Philadelphia who was here on business for the day. He was the father of 6 children.

Talk about your bad timing and wrong place at the wrong time.
