We have planned to rent out our points and use the cash to pay for Disney cruise in 2006.

I will be renting both our BCV and SSR points, I think the combined total is 437 or something like that. We have an April use year.

The points will be a combination of 05 and 06 points.

What I am having a hard time with figuring out is when to post them for rent. Do I wait until April 05?

Would it be better to rent each year's worth seperately, so that I am not worried about renting borrowed points?

Any guidance in this would be much appreciated!

I would strongly suggest you do not rent borrowed points. All you need to have happen is for the deal to fall through and you would be stuck with points which will expire sooner than later, making them less valuable. I would rent them separately.

You should post the April 2005 points now because you will soon be able to make next summer, Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's Reservations with them for next year. Just make clear they are to be used for after April of 2005.

Good luck. Renting out points is a great way to pay for a cruise but it will require some footwork on your part.

It shouldn't be that hard but you do only have unitl the end of next September to use the 2003 points. You are already in the 7 month window through next May so hopefully it will close soon so you can get moving on it.

If you are going to use some yourself, I'd use the banked points yourself (especially if you are sure you are going) and save the 2004 points for renting. That way if the rental falls through, you could always bank them.

Thanks Happy Birthday Cat,

I was thinking along those lines, burn up the banked points maybe staying at one of the disney resorts, Poly,Cont... never stay at the deluxe resorts before.

One more question if i transfer point to another DVC member can they bank the points once tranfered?

By the way what happen to your picture, did you use the bottle that said "drink me"?

Jim.

Jim,

A member is supposed to be able to bank transferred points (but people have received different answers to this from MS). But you can't transfer banked or borrowed points.

I downsized my picture while goofing around with my two sons (who are in the picture). I told them I could shrink them and they didn't believe me. Only trouble is, I can't reverse it because I don't have the potion that makes it larger again. I'm getting ready for a new picture from my Thanksgiving trip anyway. Oh well! Maybe I'll look for Alice on the trip and seek advice.

Liz, I agree w/ HBC that you should only rent out your April 2005 points first. Renting borrowed points this early may be too risky.

When you are done with renting out the '05 points, you can think about renting the '06 points, but not before next April when you begin your 2005 Use Year.

Come next April, you will also have the option of transferring your '06 points to another DVC member. Maybe there will be a member who is short on points, and wants to book a huge trip for April 2006. So they might want you to transfer your points to them before their 11month booking window opens up. That will be a fairly easy rental transaction if you choose to rent out your points via transfer.

Just some ideas...
Good luck.

Thanks HBC,

Maybe while you are there you can have a cookie at MVMCP and your picture will get larger. LOL:D

Thanks, again

Jim.
