Another reason to not ingest HFCS

http://amysbrainwaves.blogspot.com/2008/09/no-hfcs-list.html

I use no HFCS jelly and Hansen's Sodas which are so yummy good and HFCS. Mom had a mini hissy fit when I would not drive 40 miles round trip to Whole Foods just to get another jar of razzlebery jelly.

Thanks for the info.:grouphug: :thumbsup2 pixiedust:

I have been buying the store brand cola from Whole Foods, no caffeine or HFCS, for when my son wants a little "coke". I know it isn't the healthiest thing, but it is for an occasional treat, and better than the alternative. I will check out the Hansen's Sodas and the jelly, thanks for the tips. Our closest Whole Foods is about 40 miles away as well, I am heading there tomorrow.:drive:

We sometimes buy Jones soda, which is available at "regular" stores. (locally, our KMart carries it, and sometimes WalMart and Sams) The soda flavor is nasty, but the root beer is great.

I like the Jones' pomegranate flavor but I can only find it at Halloween.

Mercury? Mercury? Hmmmm. I though all our foods were SO safe!!! Makes you want to live like a pioneer. Oh wait, because of the ice storm, we are...

You got to be kidding. I am off to check the peanut butter recalls. My vegan energy bar that is supposed to be pure and good and wholesome may have had salmonella. Melamine killed all them pets and from what I hear some humans who ate the pet food got sick. Nothing is sacred or safe any more. There was the contamination of animal waste that got into the water that went into watering plants which then absorbed the bad stuff and made people sick.

churchlady, since you're in California, maybe you could go ahead and start a nice organic garden for us. A big one, since you'll be expected to share the crop. And a few cows, too please, because I take creamer in my coffee. :coffee:

Oh, well, except please make sure to check the dirt first. No contaminated dirt. If you happen to live next to a nuclear power plant, you'll need to move to a different house. Then you can start growing food for all of us. Don't forget the stevia, as that seems to be the best option for the sugar-addicts. ;)

But Becky- next we'll find out it requires toxic lead to process the Stevia. I live on a farm and am considering co-opting a garden. My sister in town pays a fortune for "organic" farm co-op service and she gets like three eggs a month for $50. It's a joke.

I think I want goats. I wonder how their milk makes your coffee taste? They also breed these little miniature cattle that have a 30% higher milk and meat yield, but I would end up a vegetarian, cause I can't eat something I think of as a pet. Good news, though- horses are one of the only species whose meat tenderizes as they age. I have four that are over 25- one going to turn 30 in March- so I'm thinking if the economy gets any worse and I'm selling prime flesh... (I would shoot myself first, people, but still). No antibiotics or processed food in my animals, maybe they are the safest thing to eat...

AHA!

Fortunately, a lot of that stuff is out if you are gfcf. But there's some stuff to cross off your shopping list.

I am GF and avoid dairy though cannot pass up a cheese enchilada.

There is a lot of food that is HFCS and GF if you lok at the right stores. Se my link in post two.
I need a nap and am so hungry.

So let's get this straight: They tested random items and 31% tested positive for deadly chemicals and no one says a word about how heretofore the corn syrup industry has been using mercury to make it's product (and if you read between the lines, they were saying that 90% of the US manufacturers don't make corn syrup with "outdated technology" but that doesn't factor in the REST OF THE WORLD!) How much mercury are we talking about? What is insulting about the scientists' reassurances is the idea that we can't somehow figure out A) cumulative effects, and B) the fact that most normal, average humans eat HFCS in every single thing they put in their mouths- unless it's a vegetable-but even some of those have been processed.

I'm just saying, telling me I should let the FDA do my food policing for me is getting a bit old, don't you think? They found it in Coke, for Pete's sake!!! I'm dyin' here.

P.S. Why isn't this discussed among the ASD crowd? Or is it? Anybody know? Cause mercury cooks the brain and the wiring system. How much is stored in my fat cells and used to feed el bambino? Huh? Where do mercury molecules go? Aren't they stored in fat? It's worth wondering.

Spinach, peanut butter, tomatoes, peppers, beef, chicken. It's all a party 'till someone gets hurt.

Out pets died and suffered from melamine poisoning. A lot of people like myself warned that next time it could be baby food. Now we have peanut butter recall and it is 1000+ companies since lat July. They have 4 strains of salmonella in their site. So do you really thing the government give a xxxxxxxx about you and your bambino or autism or fried brains or the damage being done to people. NO NO AND NO. REst in peace fluffy and fi fi and spot, good by uncle charlie. Even our vegan and organic foods are being tainted.

okay, a bit of levity for a "scary topic"--"food for thought" :) ... I had a professor point out once that "anything, in the right quantity, is toxic". Yup, eat enough carrots, broccoli, meat, WATER and it is toxic. Remember, ARSENIC could very well have an "ALL NATURAL, ORGANIC" label! So, in honor of my favorite philosophers, everything in MODERATION!!! (unless, of course, you already know that you're allergic . . .) You've gotta die from something . . .

DisDreamin', I think this is brand-new news. The study was conducted a few years ago but just now published (slow typers?) . Something like that. It just hit the autism Yahoo group I subscribe to yesterday, and they're very up on things. And yesterday was when it hit one of the boards my DH reads, which is full of "tinfoil hat" members and very up-to-the-second on breaking news.

I'm curious to see where it goes from here. Since it just cracked the internet, I'll give the networks 24 hours and our local newspaper 4 days. :sad2: I betcha it gets dropped, never makes it that far.

The sad thing is, I don't know that it will make much difference. All of us are peeved and now completely dropping HFCS if we haven't already, the rest of the world will say the study is old or "it's okay in moderation!" :crazy2: or "what do we do? Little Jimmy will die without his Pop Tarts!"

GEt ahold of yourself girl.pixiedust:

It would take years to accumulate that much mercury. In the end it would be the same as lead in dishes and paint. It will build up to the point of toxicity. I saw two famous jelly makers come out with organic jelly. They hear us and we buy and they make more. We the people just need to ban the HFCS stuff and go for the better tasting natural stuff that is not full of chemicals.

:coffee: :drive: <-- one for the road.:lmao:

Yeah yeah yeah ;) that's what they said about the MMR.

I think it's time for you to go rent a tiller.... :thumbsup2

The MMR has never had thimersol (aka mercury) in it. It's a live vaccine and the preservative would have killed the live virus. I have other issues with that vaccine but this isn't the time or the place ;).

As for the food, I don't think any amount should be ok. It's getting down right scary to eat anything anymore so I have given up. I'm eating what I want when I want and if it kills me it kills me. I don't drink, I don't smoke and I have to eat or I will die.
