Well, the OP hasn't come back so I'm wondering if she used the ketchup.

Personally, if it was a YEAR past the expiration date and had an "off color" I wouldn't even open it and smell it. To the garbage can it would go.

Personally I would have tossed it due to the tomato content but glad you lived to come back and post! DH would have eaten it easily too.

I am a health inspector. The "best by use" dates are just that, a suggested time to use by. Ketchup will not give you a foodborne illness. The quality of the product will be compromised, meaning it will probably not taste as good. Shake it, taste it, and if it tastes OK, use it.

I have never even seen mayo that the oil has started to separate.

There is no way I would use that!!

Snappy, between your "off color" ketchup and your "separating" mayo you need to go to the grocery store and re-stock!!

I used to buy the large containers of mayo at Costco but I didn't feel they stayed fresh until I had a chance to use it all so now I just buy a small one at the supermarket. I agree, Snappy needs to go grocery shopping LOL
