Another pool question - how often do you vacuum?

I got the Aqua Bug with my pool package, and I gave it a spin about 5 days ago - did a really good job.

But how often should I really vacuum? Can you wait until it looks like it needs it? Or should you do it anyway?

Sorry, first time pool owner. Almost like a first time parent. Don't know what the heck I'm doing.

We have an above ground pool and we just vacuum when it gets dirty on the bottom (mostly once a week) I think what is more important is to check the chlorine & ph pretty often.

Well if I had my way I'd never vacuum but, I don't get my way so I usually vacuum roughly once a week. But since dirt seems to collect in the pool as soon as the vacuum has been pulled out, even if it has been less than a week, if we're having a pool party or company we'll vacuum anyway. Kind of like most people go way overboard cleaning up their houses before there's company (as if no one has ever seen a slightly messy house before....). Generally we wait until there is dirt on the floor of the pool, bugs collecting, you get the idea. We have a 33,000 gallon in ground pool so it takes me about an hour to vacuum. You can bet I'm not doing touch up every day just because. There has to be a good reason for me to take the time to deal with that.

We vacuum when I can see stuff at the bottom. It depends on how much it's being used and how many storms we've had where junk gets blown in.

One thing that you may want to use is clarifier, it "clumps" any dirt into bigger particles making it easier to see the dirt and also vacuum. It also makes your pool water sparkling clean. ::yes::

I do have clarifier, but I'm not real sure on how often to use it.

We have a Kreepy Krawly that we run several hours a day. It seems to do a good job of keeping the pool clean.

We have a dedicated vacuum line so that you can run the skimmer and the Kreepy Krauly at the same time. I usually have them both going unless someone is swimming.

At least once - sometimes twice a week. Our pool has a lot of trees around it and it seems that every time the wind blows there is debris in the pool. I skim every day with a net. Vacuuming often keeps the algae from taking over too. Something about the chlorphyl in the leaves. I don't think you can vacuum too much. Pools are constant maintenance. :boat:

We have a white liner (yes white) so we usually have to vacuum twice a week ...

We have a white liner too. We bought a Polaris that runs when the pump is on so whenever the pool is on the vacuum is on automatically. Roughly about 12 hours a day everyday. We have a lot of purple plum trees around the pool so it does need it all the time. The Polaris keeps the pool spotless. I only vacuum by hand when we first open it, after it's brushed down and then once just before it's closed so I'm sure there is nothing in it for the winter.
We have been very happy with the Polaris, it does a great job otherwise I think I'd spend a couple of hours a day vacuuming by hand...yuck!
