Another Passenger Overboard on Carnival!!!

Well, hopefully the cameras will reveal what happened so the family can start the healing process.

People going overboard...intentionally.....has been going on for years. On my first cruise, in 1980, on the French Cruise Liner MS Mermoz, the Captain said they had 2 or 3 people commit suicide each year by jumping overboard at sea. It appeared they booked their cruises for that very reason.

My heart and prayers go out to the family.

On another note, this kind of stuff does happen on cruise ships more often than we hear. There are people who intentionally get on cruise ships to mug people and then once they take their goods, they throw them overboard. It is very sad.

I don't think that Disney lets 18-year-olds drink on their line do they, or what about the other lines, do they let legal adults, not yet 21 drink? I just wonder if heavy comsumption of alcohol has any thing to do with any of these tragedies that have happened in the past few years?

I, and I'd guess most everyone who has read the article, suspect alcohol played a role in this case as well as many like it. I hate to point out the obvious but if a kid wants to drink, being underage isn't going to stop them. There are plenty of people "of age" to supply the booze.

Any update on this? I hope that the family can find answers they seek and some peace in their hearts. I cannot imagine the pain they feel.

Even though we all knew in our hearts that this would be the final outcome....the Coast Guard search for the person has been called off.
I was a teenager a long time ago and we did stupid things. This time the stupid thing was tragic.
Sad.

I had gone on several cruises when I was married with my family, I have been single now for almost 5 years and want to take a cruise, especially with my 3 yo GD maybe or even thinking by myself, but this is really concerning. Do they not have security patroling the open public decks? It seems that they should be able to have a security person on each deck. Is there anyone who travels solo or any single moms, or in my case grandmas out there who can offer advice?

So awful for this family

Sad....but how it happened? 35 kids from his school on the ship were goofing around. You CAN'T fall off a ship if your feet are planted in a place where they are supposed to be. Now, if you climb on a railing, etc. all bets are off. Yes, there was an idiot teen who jumped off the Magic from deck 4 while she was in port--and the captain was NOT amused.

Teens feel they are invincible. They will never be the one in the car accident, the one who gets pregnant, the one who falls overboard. It just can't happen to them.

My son had been incredibly lucky. Two auto accidents and not a scratch. I keep telling him to be careful. One day that luck will run out. He is now 19 with a daughter so I guess a little of his luck ran out. She had been a good thing for him. He realized he had to grow up to be a dad.

Here is the link to the cruisejunkie site that we all post when a tragedy happens so people know they are not invincible and anything can and could happen on a cruise. Don't leave your common sense at home just because you are vacation.

The latest incident is already listed. You can also check to see all incidents by cruiseline.

I could not imagine what the parents are going through.

My heart aches, my stomach turns.. My prayers go out to this family and the community. What a terrible ordeal for all of them. So sad.

This is very sad. So young. So stupid. We are going on our first cruise with Disney with our son who will be 13 when we cruise. I am worried if we let him hang out with kids his own age that he (hopefully) meets on board, they will do stupid things also. Lets face it we were all yound and when you are young nothing can happen to us. Are the young teens supervised enough that this kind of thing of hanging or climbing on rails wont happen? I don't want to sufficate him and make him stay with us the whole time, it would be nice if he can do things on his own. Not that I am planning on letting him run loose or anything like that. Just some time for himself. Again my prayers and thoughts are with the young mans family. Thank you!

The only way your teen will be probably be supervised if he is running around the ship with friends he meets on board and they are not in the club will be if you are doing the supervising.

My son is 21, had his daughter at 19, and still has not grown up. Priorities are totally out of line, he has purchased one pair of shoes for her her entire life, nothing for Bday, Xmas, nothing. I did not raise them this way, I made many sacrifices for him..very sad.
