We are driving....

On our last cruise I packed all our liquids (shampoo, conditioner, sunscreen, lotions, drinks, etc...), medicine and valuables in our 1 carry on bag. To say the least it was heavy. Well this time I got a carry on bag with wheels. My question is how many of you put your liquid items in your luggage? I didn't want to risk any of it spilling out on our clothes but I would like to avoid carrying any more than I had to. I know I have to keep the drinks with me so I am mainly asking for the bathroom and personal items.

Yeah I love their H2O products so that might eliminate the need for a few items. Since it is a 7 night cruise I have several sunblocks, aloe, sea safe, and lotion too. I'll probably go ahead and put them in my carry on just so I'm not taking any chances but wondered what everyone else did.

They can split and damage your clothes or other peoples so best not to do it, just carry it on.

I've done 3 cruises and have always put toiletries in our checked bags. If you put them in a good toiletry bag and pack them towards the middle of the suitcase is shouldn't be a problem. Bags aren't handled any nicer on planes and I've never had problems with them when flying either.

I always put them in with my other clothes and things when driving, as you are. I think if you have them in ziplocs or toiletry bags. My suitcases have a pouch as well so there is at least two layers of protection. I don't think it's an issue, when driving.

I bought wine diapers and put liquids in ziplocs in them in checked luggage. Not alcohol, shampoo and such stuff.

we fly so we have no choice but to pack them. never had an issue ourselves. even if i had a choice i would not put them in a carry on and tote them around. as you have noted, to heavy. i pack smaller items in baggies, larger items in zip locks and while i have had leaks nothing has ever come out of the seals.
as for alcohol, we wrap this in bubble wrap and then use the bubble wrap for what we purchase to bring home. the bubble wrap is stored till next vacation.

We always pack our toiletry items in our checked bags. I just put them in a large zip-loc bag. The only time we had an issue was once with the top on the sunscreen wasn't screwed on tight. But it just go all over the inside of the zip-loc it was in. Didn't get on any clothes.

We had someone elses sunscreen burst and clearly went all over our bag and ruin the first few items of clothing on one cruise, any liquid its best to be considerate and to put it in carry on.

but this can not be done when you fly. you don't exactly have a choice.
it looks like the sunscreen from your example was not packed very well. i would have that sucker tucked into a ziplock and depending on if its a new bottle or not it could be double bagged.

Thanks everyone! I will stick to only carrying what I have to and putting it in my carry on. I just wondered if I was the only one carrying around a heavy bag. Last cruise it seemed like very few had "stuff" while waiting on the room to open. No biggie though. Thanks again!

Like PPs, I put liquid toiletries in ziplock bags and pack them in the center of my checked luggage. I've never had a leak.

I save the zippered bags that bed sheets come in. They are a great size to fit the bottles etc. into. Then when we get where we are going entire bag can go into bathroom area for easy access. I can literally fit toiletries, small shave cream included, razors, makeup, medicines, brushes etc....everything for the bathroom into 1 or 2 of these depending on the length of trip and number of people going. I have had a bottle open once. Everything stayed inside of bag and was easy to clean up.

The only liquid I (husband) carry around is alcohol, everything else is in a checked bag. I do put all lotions, gels, etc. in a Ziploc bag though.

DD has had lotion leak twice while flying. She's very careful to pack it in a Ziploc bag. I don't remember what brand it was, but it was the same brand both times, different new bottles, different flights.

I put each bottle in an individual ziplock, then put everything into a bigger ziplock. So everything is essentially double-bagged. Once I had something leak, but it only leaked in the first ziplock-- didn't even make it into the second ziplock.

We fly.

Toiletries go in checked baggage. I also put a small amount of key toiletries (toothpaste; shampoo which can double as a body wash) in my 3-1-1 bag in carry-on, in case my checked luggage goes for an unauthorized adventure without me.

Some of my toiletries I put in silicone leak-proof containers or leak-proof nalgene containers. All my liquid/gel/cream/lotions go into double ziploc bags -- I fill a quart bag with the containers, then seal that bag and then put it inside another sealed ziploc bag. All of that then goes in the toiletry case which is also leak resistant. I HAVE had containers leak, usually not a lot, but the inside of the ziploc was sure messy. Because the containers are in a double ziploc, I have never had any leaks get out past the Ziplocs. I always bring a bunch of extra ziplocs in case they are needed )e.g. when the shampoo container decides to leak in the ziploc and make a mess, i do not even try cleaning the bag, i just toss it; cleaning the other containers it was with is enough of a pain).

SW

I have a separate checked bag for toiletries. In that I use a combination of ziplock bags and plastic lined fabric containers to hold liquids. My carry on just has some makeup, toothbrush and toothpaste, and a change of clothes in case of lost luggage.
