Can 2020 stop now? I just returned home from 5 nights in Indiana, holding vigil with DH's siblings/spouses while his father died at home, on hospice. We are all OK. It wasn't expected but he was 88 and had a plethora of medical complications (COPD, diabetes, stage 4 kidney failure, congestive heart failure), and has been slowly failing since the beginning of September. He was taken to the ER on Sunday where he refused dialysis, with oxygen saturation of 84%, and asked to die at home with hospice support. We flew out and arrived in time for him to recognize that DH was there, for DH to tell him he loves him. It was a horrendous week for my FIL but surprisingly he passed very peacefully, surrounded by his children, on Friday afternoon. We are OK... shocked and saddened, but it was an honor to be able to do this for him, and the hospice people were invaluable in supporting us all.
