Another lovely day in Oklahoma. . .

Well that is pretty cool.

While much of Oklahoma is like what many picture the 'West' to be like- barren, flat, tumbleweeds, dusty. . . a surprising amount is actually very mountainous and woodsy.

The Ozark Mountain Range in Arkansas spills over into OK. Lot's of wildlife, lakes, streams. Quite scenic actually. :)

Had my Baby Barbecue yesterday for 30 some people, all outside in 90 some degree weather with high high humidity and NO wind. We skyped my son and DIL ,whom we are celebrating. They are stationed at Altus AFB in OK. Anyway.........I told them I ordered hot dogs, burgers, cupcakes and THEIR kind of weather for the big event. :sunny::sunny::sunny:

btw....Happy belated birthday Dan! :bday:

Yep! The pretty part is where I'm from. :cloud9:

Does sound very pretty. Do you have bears Twilight Sparkle?

I no longer live there, sadly. Our family land is still there and still in the family, so I do visit a couple of times a year. I saw bear tracks up on our mountain when I was a kid. The neighbors say they see bears more frequently now. Mountain lions have also been spotted, and wild hogs are starting to become a big problem on the land.

Where is the land located (if you don't mind saying) Sparkle?

I would also like to see a mountain lion. Maybe even a pile of them.

Skunks as well, they are so cute looking.

I can vouch for this. When we lived in Texarkana, I would often wander into Arkansas and then west into the Ouchita Mountains into Oklahoma. Even though we spend most of our time in the more northern Ozarks the Ouchitas are absolutely gorgeous too.

Yep. That's down where Pretty Boy Floyd used to lam it.

Beautiful country and nothing like most people picture OK. to be like. :)

I was very surprised when we discovered that area. We'd gone to Queen Wilhelmina park near Mena AR and decided to wander west to explore. Next thing we knew we were in Oklahoma and not only was the area just as pretty but it was super quiet. People definitely haven't discovered some of these nice areas in Oklahoma.

So you lived in Texarkana, PG?

Such a weird town!

One side of the main st. was 'dry' and the other had bars and liquor stores.

I almost got run over a couple times staying there! :scared1:

:rotfl2:

Plenty of skunks around OK and TN! I agree; they are super cute little dudes. Until they spray. We have one that hangs out at the barn where we board our horse. Our horse must have wandered into some residual spray the other night because he had the faintest whiff on his head. He had also rolled his whole body, including his head and around his eyes thickly in mud. That was a fun grooming session.

Have you ever had to deal with a dog that tangled with a skunk? Sometimes dogs have no sense at all.

Sorry all, no beach pictures today. :guilty: We've had thunderstorms on & off all day. Unfortunately, the weather was too nasty for the beach. I always feel bad for the tourists when we have a rainout like today. Hopefully, we'll be able to get there some time this week.

Exciting!:dance3: Congrats on your new, family addition. That's awesome! I'm glad your cookout was a success.

This sounds like our family land. My parents left 100+ acres to my sisters & I. Only one sister & a nephew lives there now, so the animals are taking over. Deer, wild turkeys & other more tame animals walk around in their yards. There have also been bear, bobcat, coyote & fox sightings there. It's gotten to a point that my sister is afraid to allow her grand kids to go out & play. We could open a wildlife preserve & make a killing on tours.

Skunks aren't cute. Smell one once & you'll change your mind.
