I give up today, all the news seems to be negative - I feel like Debbie Downer! Per People magazine:

Reese Witherspoon and Ryan Phillippe have separated after seven years of marriage, PEOPLE has confirmed.

"We are saddened to announce that Reese and Ryan have decided to formally separate," a rep for the couple said in a statement released Monday. "They remain committed to their family and we ask that you please respect their privacy and the safety of their children at this time." TMZ.com first reported the couple's split.

Witherspoon, 30, and Phillippe, 32, have two children, daughter Ava, 7, and son Deacon, 3.

The couple met when a mutual friend brought Phillippe to Witherspoon's 21st-birthday party. Two years later, after they had costarred in 1999's Cruel Intentions, he proposed. They married in June 1999 and had Ava three months later.

Witherspoon, who won an Oscar for her role in last year's hit Walk the Line, is next expected to appear in the drama Rendition. Phillippe is currently starring in the WWII drama Flags of Our Fathers.

Now this is depressing! I always thought they were a perfect couple! They stayed out of the media so well...I really thought that helped their relationship :guilty:

I was actually holding out hope for this couple, I really like them both.

That's too bad. We just saw Flags of our Fathers last night, and were commenting on what a classy couple Reese and Ryan seemed to be.

I'm beginning to think that "hollywood" marriage certificates should be issued on toilet paper....

I really like Reese. I can't say I'm really all that surprised though. I remember the last picture I saw of them together they looked kinda annoyed. It was a movie premiere I believe.

That's too bad. I thought they were in it for the long haul. Oh well, as long as Will and Jada don't break up I'm okay. :)

You know, all the other Hollywood breakups and divorces haven't surprised or disappointed me in the least. But I really thought these two were the real deal. Just yesterday my mom and I were talking about how they seemed really normal, stayed out of the spotlight as much as possible, and spent a lot of time with their kids. I was really rooting for them. Oh well.

So sad. They seemed like such a wonderful couple, very devoted to their children.

I used to work with his aunt and this is the way she described them, just very "normal" and down to earth. :( I really am surprised by their split, especially with kids so young. :(

Yeah. In the trainwreck that is a Hollywood divorce the only ones I feel badly for are the kids. Especially when they are that young.

I love Reese and was really hoping they stayed together. Wasn't there rumors of Ryan being unfaithful not too long ago?

they kind of rushed into marriage after she got pregnant, which is never a good thing to do.

they were always off doing different things, they were probably never around each other for very long periods of time, which can put strain on a relationship.

I don't know, I'm sort of surprised but I'm sort of not. I've always loved them as a couple and they were actually married on the same day as DH and I (just a little bit of trivia). I always thought she seemed very normal and down to earth. But I sometimes got the impression that he missed out on his "bachelor years". And I know it's a huge stereotype, but that's really the impression that I got from him. They got married right around the time of him becoming famous (you know when he can get all the girls).

And like someone else said, I normally chuckle at the next hollywood breakup, but this one sort of makes me sad.
