I read somewhere here that you can use your fastpass any time after the return time. Not just between the times given. Does anybody have any experience with that? I once did use it after the FP time was up. But I thought the CM was just being nice. Can you count on it? What is Disneys policy?

I don't think you can "count" on it. It all depends on the CM, but they issue a certain number of FPs for every 5 minutes in order to control the number of people coming back at any time. If everyone who got a fastpass just decided to return whenever they liked it would destroy the fastpass system.

It expires, unless the attraction has gone down for an extended period of time, in which case you will be allowed to use it for the rest of the day, once the attraction is working again.

I was told by several CMs, as were many of my friends, that they do not expire until the next day. I didn't believe my friend when she told me, so I asked about a half dozen CMs, and they all gave me the same answer, the do not expire. We used FPs that were hours past their time with no problem.

In most cases they'll let you, but it's important to keep in mind that doing this habitually is really abusing the system. If enough people do this, FastPass return lines will become even more backed up than they already are, forcing Disney to either issue less FastPasses or more strictly enforce the return windows. In both cases, everybody loses.
