Another food allergy question

Hi I am thinking about booking another Disney cruise but my DD has been diagnosed with multiple food allergy and intolerances due to Mastocytic Colitis and have questions.

In the fryers what type of oil is used?
Is the GF bread a particular brand and/or baked fresh onboard? Many breads contain soy and corn even if they are gluten free.
Is rice milk available onboard?
On a 3 or 4 day are all 3 meals served in a dining room?
Is there corn syrup in the ice cream near the pool deck?
What is the GF pasta made from?

Thank you for any help you can give me.

What you read on here and what you encounter yourself onboard can be different. They change brands and what not depending on what is available from their suppliers. Never assume. Ask, ask and ask again. On board, we were "told" a lot of things and experienced very different things. Much of that info was different than what shoreside had today. More than a few times, what we were told was "safe" was infact NOT safe. 3 anaphylactic reactions from 3 different people on our cruise alone...and they almost killed our DD after telling us her plate that they sent to the club was safe...when it wasnt.

The link above take you to the DCL dietary needs help page.

My DH only has a dairy allergy and so we had a very good experience. But with your restrictions I would talk to Disney before even booking the cruise and make special arrangements to bring some of my of my own food on board. Like bread for example. And then yes - ask, ask and ask again.

Also, fyi the "ice cream" in the machines is pure junk and isn't really even ice cream.

We traveled once on DCL and DS has dairy allergy. No complaints on my end on the ship. We registered his allergy online and when we arrived, it was confirmed at check in as well as first dining experience. They made him his own desserts etc. When you do buffet, however it was a little more challenging to find someone to come out and help. It has to always be a manager/chef. Also, the communication on where to get his dairy free lunch on Castaway was poorly communicated since there are 2 places to eat. His lunch was sent to one area and we we told to be at another

Elsewhere on the board I have made a ong post about my experience with multiple food allergies on DCL.

I can only speak to a couple of your questions:

There is always an MDR option for each meal; while dinner is assigned MDRs, for breakfast and lunch there will be at least one sit-down MDR available. If you look on previous Navigators you will get good idea of which restaurants are open when. Except for the odd snack at the pool deck QS places (on the Fantasy I learned they could make me safe pizza, safe chicken tenders, and safe french fries; note though that it would take a LONG time to prepare and my sister would be served and done her snack long before mine was ready), we pretty much ate in the MDRs for meals.

One our recent B2B on the Dream, I actually pre-ordered ALL my meals (B,L,D) each night for the next day. this involved not only choosing/telling what I wanted, but also choosing WHICH dining room I would eat in for breakfast and for lunch (they did not have to be the same). Our servers told us where THEY would be and usually I ate in the same place they would be in. Once we decided we would eat in Cabanas becasue it had bettwe hours, and that was fine, too, because I was pre-ordering so they would know and expect me. this worked MUCH better than our previous cruises where we had only pre-ordered dinner (and CC lunch): the wait was shorter, and I could get Mickey Waffles with every breakfast :-)

Because I have dairy allergies, I often end up getting GF products because often they are DF and free of other top allergens. At least some of the bread is a brand product, but I do not know for sure what brand. I got pizza from the QS pizza place on the Fantasy and for my pizza the chef used Udi's pizza crusts (he showed me the bag) and Tofutti cheese slices (again, I was shown the package to make sure it was ok).

Note that the "ice cream" on the pool deck is actually soft serve. It does contain dairy but I do nto remember the other ingredients. On our recent Dream cruise they had an ingredient list out and visible so one could check.

On the Dream there is a new candy shop that serves real ice cream; every thing had dairy so I did not ask about further ingredients. That ice cream is not free, there is an extra charge, but is much more likely to actually be ice cream with minimal ingredients. In the MDRs I received Rice Dream when I had "ice cream".

For the fryers; I do not know what kind of oil is used. However, they did offer to bake french fried for me once, so that MAY be an option. However, french fries themselves can have ingredients other than pure potatoes, so they could potentially be an issue irregardless of the fryer.

For bread, you could consider bringing a loaf of known-safe bread on ship. The package has to be sealed and in its commercial packaging when you board. It should keep fairly well in the fridge in your room. The ship is not allowed to prepare it for you, though. I had considered bringing a loaf of Udi's but then decided I would just do without bread most of the time. A couple times I did ask for toast for breakfast and received what looked like Udi's (but as I did not see the bag I don;t know for sure). For dinners on the fantasy they made us really yummy sourdough rolls which were safe for me (but not GF) and very very yummy. We ate plenty and pretty much got my "bread quotient" from dinner :-) The dairy-free margarine they gave me was Earth Balance.

Your best option is to contact DCL Special Services and speak with them. Hopefully they can answer some or all of your questions. Do note though that ingredients and suppliers DO change so what may be true now may not be true later.

Also I should add:

ALWAYS check the food you are given and make sure it "looks" right.

One night on the dream I had ordered the romain wedge salad, obviously with no parmasean cheese. The plate they put in front of me had parmasean cheese on it and as I was asking "is that cheese?" the server realized the mistake and was removing it. The assistant server was then sent for the PROPER plate, which had no cheese. Likewise during that trip at AOA I ordered the breakfast platter. I was given potatoes that looked identical to my sister's order, which clearly had some kind of milk product in them. I did not eat them.

Mistakes DO happen and there is no guarantee any given item will be totally safe. Always check and double-check and ask if in doubt. And have appropriate emergency meds like epipens available (I took 2 everywhere I went on the ship) just in case.
