Another example of “pay more, get less”..water park hours reduced

but likewise, it should be common sense that just because the places nearby you don't have seasonal hours, that is not universal, either. Hell, New York City shuts down at 2 on summer Fridays so people can get out of town -- flexible hours are certainly not unusual, and especially in entertainment venues.

And none of us know a) whether these hours will stick b) since it has historically been the case that Disney starts with reduced hours and expands them beyond earlier publications, whether that will be the case this year and c) the real motivation for reductions.

I take exception with the statement "since it has historically been the case that Disney starts with reduced hours and expands them beyond earlier publications, whether that will be the case this year.... ". I agree that theme park hours often start with less hours and then as the dates get closer, additional hours get added. This year for the water parks (not the theme parks), it's different. Historically, the water parks were always open 9-8 PM in July. These hours were posted as 9-8PM early in the year and stayed that way. That makes sense. It's the busiest water park month and it's the hottest month. In fact, it's so busy that Disney used to to have morning EMH once a week at BB and Typhoon Lagoon. I think the last year of EMH in the water parks was 2014.

What concerns me is that earlier this year (January I think), WDW posted BB and TL hours as 9-8PM. Sometime in March they dialed down the July hours to 10-7PM. Coincidentally this happened around the time we learned of all the other cuts and monetizations. This leads me to conclude that since they started with 9-8PM and then reduced it to 10-7PM they intend to keep those reduced hours. This makes me sad since the water parks will be much less enjoyable.

I'm sorry, do you live in our town? Because, yes, it is true. The stores in our area have the same operating hours, every year, every normal business day of the year. So do the restaurants.

And please, try to use some common sense. What as being referenced was not referring to holidays and storm closures, nor businesses that are forced to close due to temperatures (such as outdoor markets and pools in the winter). It was a question of: do they (your typical indoor stores and restaurants) close early when demand drops, such as: "Okay, we don't get as much business in September from 7-8, so we'll start closing at 7:00", or even "Well, it's been a slow night tonight, I think we'll close early". And no, that does NOT happen here.
Many restaurants and other businesses can't close early on a whim. When you sign a lease to be a part of the shopping center or mall, you have to keep the same hours as the rest of the tenants. You can close early if there's a big snowstorm or something like that. But the other tenants need steady and dependable hours and changing hours of operation is not easy to do for many businesses.

Ahhh... and you're making an (erroneous) assumption that I think like you do. I don't.
For example, I'm well aware that many places do things differently, and therefore would never have made an ignorant comment such as, "Well that ain't true", about an area that I know nothing about. Also, I would never make assumptions that just because things are done in a certain way where I have lived, that that's how they're done everywhere.

At some point, conversations just aren't worth it.

I'm sorry I suggested your knowledge of your town was less than complete. My bad.

I just noticed the 10-7 as well. Not even extended for 4th of July week. I think our annual trip is going to become an every few years trip. I don't like the direction these paid for early/ late events and park hours reduction is taking.

As the person at work who is known as the "go to Guy" for Disney World vacation planning, I have enthusiastically encouraged and advised dozens of families over the years to visit Disneyworld. I don’t do that anymore. Now when someone at work tells me they are considering going to DisneyWorld my reaction is "Hey that’s great. I hope you have a good time." and I end the conversation.

I haven't read the whole thread but this statement sounds so much like me.
