slo’s MONDAY 1/5 poll - Controversial Topics Board

I've never been there and don't want to. All things DIsney = escape from the real world. And I want to keep it that way.

ETA: That's one of my main attractions to WDW. When I'm there I leave the real world behind.

My DD22 and I don't turn on the TV one time when we are there. The remote never moves from where it was when we entered the room. I do get my notifications on my phone, but I don't click on there to read more information. I guess I would if there was something tragic in my town, but outside of that, I love being inside the Disney bubble and not caring what is happening outside of the Disney bubble.

I check the Controversial Board every day but rarely post anymore. There is a lot I would like to say, but I do not.

I have access, I go on there and check out the new threads but it's a bit of a snarky/high school atmosphere and not really for me.

I admit to occasional snarkiness, but I figure it's better than ruining life-long friendships from viewing ridiculous facebook posts.

I go there occasionally, and have posted a couple of times. It’s a mostly political board and I’m really not interested in all that back and forth bickering from either side. There is one poster in particular that is so obsessed, and I used to think very highly of him. Not anymore.

Nope. I used to ocassionally get into some more heated topics - mostly in how they related to things Disney was doing, but when it moved into it's own section, I decided it would be better to just stay away from it. I never requested access.

Well okay then...SANDY There are plenty of places on the internet for controversy,if that's what I'm looking for I'll look there. I do take a peak at the Controversial topics from time to time, but I don't stay long and I seldom post.

I check it out frequently, at least a couple of times a week, and post occasionally. The exception to this is the meme thread. I usually save up memes that particularly amuse me and then dump them all at once (so maybe 5 or 6) when I have the time. I was hoping there would be more open, balanced discussion, but you have to be prepared to justify what you have to say and to defend your positions with verifiable references (if it's something that's not just opinion, or to justify from where you formed your opinions).

Never been, never requested BUT I AM SO GLAD IT EXISTS!!! Having the board has moved most the & troll conversations out of the general boards, making this a more pleasant space to be. Hopefully DIS is getting plenty of clicks over there!!

I participate and post when I have something factual to add to a particular discussion that hasn't already been posted. On all of the political topics it is clear who already supports whom and nothing anyone is going to say will change their mind. They have already decided regardless of what the facts might be.

I read it often. Sometimes I post a lot, sometimes not, depending on how fast the conversation is moving and whether someone has already covered what I was thinking.

I opted in, because FOMO. But I think the only time I've gone on it has been if someone on Community Board mentions something about it.

I don't even bring up controversial topics to DH -- I won't mess with trying to do it on a semi-public forum.

I'm intrigued by this....you don't discuss controversial topics with your husband? Ever??

I was excited for it initially; not sure what I was expecting, but it definitely wasn’t what has actually played out. I do not engage in the US political threads, which is practically all of them now, so my participation is very infrequent.

I wish there were more NON-political threads. But it seems everything turns into politics anymore. The one topic that I enjoyed the most got removed for content, even though it did not technically violate the rules. I think the forum rules were changed to exclude that topic.

I'm not the person you quoted, but I usually don't.

DH and I aren't far apart politically, but we're definitely not an exact overlap. I figure there's no sense inviting an argument over things we can't control anyway.

Most of the discussion on boards like that, come from anonymous people who don’t always have real-life experience…especially with things like the military, medical issues, or law enforcement. I’d rather get that kind of information from trained professionals and keep my Disney time fun.

Too many of the regulars there have no real life experience with what they love to post about. And to be honest, most likely not much of a real life in general.

Yup, I'm there multiple times a day. Love it. I don't post with great frequency, but I enjoy reading. It's more interesting to me than what the Community Board has become these days. I still come over here on occasion but TBH there's not a whole lot going on over here on a daily basis to engage with, unfortunately. Except for Slo's polls of course, LOL.

I voted other because I CAN'T go to the Controversial Topics Forum.
I never have requested access because:
1) I strongly believe those topics should not be restricted to one board.
2) I strongly believe EVERYONE should be able to READ the posts in that forum without requesting access. I could however, accept requiring registration to POST in that forum.

I have no idea what, if anything I am missing. The biggest controversy on the DIS over my 23+ years as a member, and a previous 2 years are a lurker, has been that things flagged as controversial that were nothing more than a valid opinion.

Actually, just like the CB, there are members from ALL walks of life. There are former military, some medical, and law enforcement just to name a few.

I am a very active participant. The board moves very fast sometimes, but it can be engaging. I still don't personally think a separate section was needed. If there's a thread you (general) don't like the topic on, don't read it, or, if necessary, use the "ignore thread" feature. I think some threads on the CB are totally boring ("Name a song with the word 'song' in it") and I have no interest in. You know what? I don't click on the thread.

I think we as a people are better off being able to express/discuss our views, even with those who are diametrically opposed.

I do find it interesting however that some people have gotten "temporary timeouts" for their posts and some have been flat out banned. Apparently they just couldn't help themselves.
