Another ebay question

Okay, so I'm not a huge buyer on Ebay, just here and there. I mostly use it to buy pins for Disney trips but I've recently started buying clothes on there for my DD's American Girl doll. There's some really cute stuff on there.

Anyway, I've had a similar thing happen 3 times now.

The first time I ordered a pair of shoes that the description clearly said "black velvet" and you could see the texture in the picture that they were velvet. When the shoes arrived they were very much black vinyl. I messaged the seller and said that I had received the wrong shoes. I waited 2 or 3 days and got no response so I sent another message. Finally after 2 more days the seller messages me back and says I can ship them back for a refund but I'd have to pay the return shipping. So I opened a case with ebay and ebay refunded my money.

Then just this week I ordered an outfit that in the picture and the description clearly had "white leggings". White leggings were mentioned several times in the description. They had several available and I ordered two of the outfits for my DD and my niece. They arrive today and the leggings are very much hot pink. I've messaged the seller but haven't heard back yet. The party is Friday so I obviously don't have time to send them back at this point. Its not a huge deal but I had also ordered hot pink shoes to match the little outfits and now its quite a bit of hot pink.

The other instance was also this week. I ordered an outfit that once again in the picture and in the ad very clearly show/state "pink striped sandals" and when received I got pink crocs that look nothing like the picture. I messaged the seller but haven't heard back yet. This is the least big deal because they do match and will work and I was planning to order some crocs for her doll anyway. But its kind of the point of it.

Does anyone else run into this type of thing frequently and how do you handle it?

I have sold and bought items over the years and the past 2 weeks I have had some issues as well. I think the buyers and/or sellers are getting lazy and or gutsy to sell their items.

I'm assuming these are not all from the same seller. As long as you are satisfied with the substitutions (except for the first one where you got the ebay refund), I would give the seller positive feedback (they didn't delay, the items were acceptable), but mention in your comment that while items were acceptable, they were not the exact items mentioned or pictured. This will give future buyers a warning. And make sure you read the feedback for any potential sellers for this type of clue before you buy from them! This is ALWAYS a good idea. As a seller, I would appreciate a note from you before you leave feedback (which it sounds like you've done), but let them know that your feedback comments will reflect the discrepancy between the description/picture and the actual item.

I was wondering if this was the same seller? I have bought a lot on Ebay and never had that happen. Once I didn't receive an item. Did you check the feedback before ordering?

Nope, all three different sellers. The one that sent the crocs has 100% positive feedbaack. They had a couple of neutral feedbacks but those had to do with shipping. The other seller that sent the wrong color leggings has 99.5% positive feedback. They do have some negative over the past year but 26 negative out of over 7600 didn't seem too bad.

I'll see if either of them respond. At this point, like I said the crocs will work so I will probably leave positive or neutral feedback and note that the item was not what was described.

The leggings outfit just isn't as cute with the pink leggings but I don't have time to ship it back so I guess it will have to do. I guess I'll just have to wait and see if the sellers respond to me.

Wow, that's a lot of negatives. That would be one I would back right out of and find another seller.

Really? I didn't seem to think that was too much. That's less than 1%. Several of them seemed to be more an issue of buyers remorse and couple were shipping issues and a couple were that they seller had messaged afterwards that the item was out of stock but they got a full refund. Only one had to do with someone getting something that wasn't right.

1% does not sound like a lot, but as a former seller and some one that still buys, I only deal with 100%, those people care about their customers and literally will bend over backwards if there is any issue.
If someone ships something that is NOT what is described accurately, I would request a full refund and I would Not pay for return shipment, as that is their issue/fraud. Ebay should/will stand by this.
Now, if you feel you can just keep it, that kind of perpetuates the situation...but if its okay/ works for you, I do get it...such a hassle!
You may want to Ding them with a Negative or neutral to warn others, I think neutral if you feel like it was an oversight (tho in what you indicated, I think its plain fraud and they count on you just accepting what they sent)
sorry, more and more ebay issues like this popping up, even those that "say they have it" then offer a refund as they do not have what they offer, crazy stuff!!
Good Luck, perhaps you can get a Partial refund for inaccuracy ?? :confused3

Not too much ebay experience but wanted to let you know there is someone on here that sells really cute outfits for the american girl dolls that are desinged after disney characters. They are so cute and if I had a little girl I would be buying them up. I have no idea the price (and dont know this person personally). I saw her stuff in the thread for sewers on here and I think she is on esty (or however that is spelled).

Good luck

Speaking as both a buyer and seller on eBay, I'd say right now you're just a victim of the law of averages. Only a small percentage of transactions have issues like this, you're just in the unlucky position of having it happen a few times in a row. I wouldn't assume it any bigger issue than that.

I got a response from the one seller. There was a note in the package that she had to send the sandals back to the manufacturer because of some issue and that she had put in the crocs instead. I had missed the note. The seller offered to send an additional pair of shoes either sandals or pink tennis shoes if I wanted. I declined her offer but appreciated the effort, I think she truly wanted to make me happy. So that one is resolved. The crocs will work.

I still haven't heard anything from the other seller yet. That's the one with some negative feedback.

I've ordered quite a bit of the doll clothes over the last couple months for DD and now for my niece's birthday. For the most part I've had good service and gotten what I paid for. I guess this is just a fluke. If I don't hear back from the other seller I will leave negative feedback for them and I'll avoid purchasing from that seller in the future.

I disagree. I don't consider any type of substitution acceptable unless I agree to it beforehand. And if you give positive feedback but leave a warning in the comments, it will be buried several pages back before you know it, and will be useless.

Wow, you are tough! While the vast majority of my e-bay experiences have been positive, I have run across a few folks that I felt were flat out scammers - on both the buying and selling sides. So I wouldn't hesitate to deal with a seller who has a few negatives. You never know who they've had to deal with.

Sending the wrong color tights wouldn't automatically get a negative from me, but that in combination with not responding to my concerns just might. It sounds like the seller is pretty high volume, I'd probably try contacting them again first. Hopefully they'll get back to you and work something out before you have to neg them. Good Luck.

The second seller responded and said she was sorry and that its how her manufacturer sent them. She said I could send back the pink one and she would send me the white ones.

I replied that for starters I don't have time to mail them back and wait for her to send me the right ones. The outfit is a gift for my niece's birthday on Friday. And that secondly I didn't think I should have to pay to ship them back to her when it was her mistake. I just want what I paid for. For what I would pay to ship them back I could almost buy another pair from a different seller.

I'm not trying to get something for nothing. I have no problem sending the pink ones back but I'm not paying for it. And I do want the white ones that I paid for so I'm not just going to say its okay and keep the wrong ones.

I don't sell that much on Ebay, but within the past 2 weeks, I had a buyer that has refused to pay. I am leaving her negative feedback.

My auction was for an article of clothing with the size specified. She said she needed another size (then why bid on my auction?) Now she refuses to pay. Nice.
