Well folks I have tried this on the cruise board and only gotten 3 responses--I am sure the DVC folks have more opinions!
I have 3 options:
1) 3 day wonder in a cat. 4
2) 4 day wonder in two connecting cat. 10s
3) 4 day wonder in two connecting cat. 9s.

Paying cash for DS, options 2 and 3 are very alike except if we do the cat. 10s we will have 4 nights in BWV or VWL--if we do cat. 9s we will have 3 nights. But we'll be back in 2004 anyhow, right? I already checked and the "secret porthole" rooms are NOT available, so the cat. 10 would have no window. There would be no cash outlay for the 3 day cruise.
I need to book next week (11 months out) so any and all opinions are appreciated from DVC cruisers. If you already replied on the cruise board (thanks mouseclick!) you don't need to reply again.

Take the 2 cat 10's. Anything that will extend your cruise and vacation is a good thing.

My family was in a cat. 11 for a 7 day cruise this summer. We weren't in the room but to change and sleep. We didn't even think about not having a window. We wanted to get out of the cabin and have fun on deck, lab, eat, ... :). We would do a cat. 10 and stay another day at resort.

It's strictly a matter of personal preference. We've been on DCL three times and have always opted for a verandah; we just enjoy sitting out there early in the morning and at night........it also offers other romantic possibilities if your DS is in the kid's club;) ;) ;) ;) ;) .......

If you could get two of the 15 cat 10's on Decks 5 or 7, I would actually prefer cat 10 to cat 9. However that's unlikely. If you're going to be on decks 1 and 2 anyway, may as well go with cat 10.

It would be fun to be in a cat 4 but it would be cramped with 5 people, and the 3-day is so short.

I vote for 4 day in the Cat. 10. I've never cruised on DCL, but on Carnival last year we were in the very cheapest rooms. As another poster said, we were only there to change clothes and sleep. A verandah would've been nice if money wasn't a factor, but I definitely can't see paying for a port hole.

I vote for two cat. 10. We also chose two cat. 11 last year and will be doing the same now when I book for next year. I could not decided either. I have three older children, 16, 14 and 9. Two bathrooms, more space, less mess for me to look at or verandah. I can always go out on Deck 4 to check out the ocean. Of course, I would love the view right outside of the cabin, but the two bathrooms really won. You can always and I am sure you will cruise again and go with the verandah.

4 day cat 10
We were at the Wilderness Lodge 9 nights in Oct.
In Dec I cruised on NCL 4 nights to the Western Caribb. The cruise went wayyyy too fast. I spent most of my time on the 2 upper decks - pool deck & sun deck. First thing in the morn with my coffee, last thing at night gazing at the sky.
This Nov DH, DS10 and I are cruisin for a week on the Magic Eastern Caribb. Cat 10, deck 2. Of course I asked for secret porthole, then I asked for upper decks cat 10. They were all gone.
We could have borrowed a few more points from next year and had the cat 9. But we had already rolled last years points to this year and are using 2 yrs worth of points already.
